The last 20 years of Internet policy have been dominated by the copyright war, but the war turns out only to have been a skirmish. The coming century will be dominated by war against the general purpose computer, and the stakes are the freedom, fortune and privacy of the entire human race.

    Thank you for posting this. Very important, especially at this time of massive transformation. TPTB are using the mobile internet as an opportunity (one of many) to replace the “wild west” we’re used to with a locked-down, manicured, monitored, panoptic computing experience.

    Open source is more important than ever. Richard Stallman doesn’t sound as kooky as he used to.

    I’ve been racking my brain on how to teach more people the basics of crypto. It has the power to lock us down or break the chains.

    All of us need to work to generate “chaff” that will keep NSA computers working for years to decipher garbage and keep “the Man” guessing. Geniuses created these systems as well as the surveillance components and geniuses can succeed in monkeywrenching them.
