Fracking Chemicals Contaminated Drinking Water in Pennsylvania

Traces of a chemical compound used in hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, have been found in drinking water at three homes in Pennsylvania, according to a study published this week. The findings of the study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, add to growing concerns over the public health risks involved with fracking, which uses water, sand, and chemicals to release shale gas from rocks deep below the Earth’s surface.

“This is the first documented and published demonstration of toxic compounds escaping from uncased boreholes in shale gas wells and moving long distances” into drinking water, Susan Brantley, a geoscientist at Pennsylvania State University and one of the study’s authors, told the Associated Press.

Captain Obvious has finally shown up. This was reported on NPR Tuesday maybe. But I’ve found that there was legislation (conflicting of course) to the US Dept of Energy. in 2005. Figure out how water is impacted by the quest for energy resources. Same bill (EPACT 2005) gave frackers the right to hide their methods and chemicals used in fracking. Let us thank Dick Cheney. The DOE didn’t even look at this water/energy conflict until about 2013. The horses had already left the barns re fracking. Its about time this greasy, chemically laden method of extracting resources gets to see the light of day. But too late for peoples all across the U.S. who have been stupid, and maybe greedy and grubbing for cash to just finally figure out the cost of all of this fracking. My middle finger is extended to all of the above. Thank you for ruining the water in your quest for cash. MORONS ALL.
