Trump Backs Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipelines

January 24th, 2017

Via: BBC:

US President Donald Trump has infuriated environmentalists by signing executive orders that support two controversial oil pipelines.

The new Republican president backed the Keystone XL and Dakota Access projects, provided American steel is used.

The Obama administration in late 2015 halted Keystone, which would carry crude from Canada to Texas.

The Army decided last year to explore other routes for the Dakota pipeline amid huge protests by Native Americans.

This move by Trump re the pipelines is inexplicable. Almost like he is throwing chum off the back of his “fishing boat” to see who or what is going to rise up out of the deep to take the bait. The pipelines proposed confound the laws (not Executive Orders) that were established decades ago to protect the lands of the Tribal Nations. That said – the caveat ” that these pipelines are approved provided that American steel is used” to me is the clincher. Who in the U.S. makes the steel needed for a pipeline anymore? I personally do not know. Might take years to get the mills back on line to do so. So to me, this is not a freak out moment, but a time to watch the “chess game” that will go on herewith.
Last night I watched “Deepwater Horizon.” So angry after watching I had an allergic reaction (red/purple face, stomach ache, etc.). Then in my crazy allergic state I looked to see what did BP actually pay for this tragedy? Turns out they got to write off about $15 billion or so as a cost of doing business. Which means the U.S. taxpayer picked up most of the tab. Nice for them, but not for us here in the U.S. That is however part of the $20 trillion plus the outgoing administration has left the U.S. taxpayer with.
Chum. Dead fish off the back of boat to attract sharks. Nice (not). Time to watch Fight Club in its entirety (as I could not do while Mom was here).

This was in Trump’s campaign, and to-do list. I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise, he’s apparently listening to the Army Corps of Engineers to route it around sensitive areas.

The Deepwater thing was despicable, they put down dispersants that are more carcinogenic than the oil itself, it’s all about good PR right?

The price of crude is directly related to the price of food, I have mixed feelings on this one. I do find it very weird to see a politician keeping (some) of his campaign promises.

I would be remiss and would not be truthful if I did not add that the portion of my comment came from Zero Hedge. I believe that both Kevin and my nephew told me that the moniker from Zero Hedge re “Tyler Durden” came from the movie “Fight Club.”
