Schwarzenegger Plans to Completely Eliminate Welfare for Families in California

May 23rd, 2009

Via: Los Angeles Times:

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is proposing to completely eliminate the state’s welfare program for families, medical insurance for low-income children and Cal Grants cash assistance to college and university students.

The proposals to sharply scale back the assistance that California provides to its neediest residents came in testimony by the administration this afternoon at a joint legislative budget committee hearing. It followed comments by the governor earlier today that he would be withdrawing a proposal to help balance the budget with billions of dollars of borrowing and replacing it with program reductions.

The proposals would completely reshape the state’s social service network, transforming California from one of the country’s most generous states to one of the most tightfisted. The proposals are intended to help close a budget deficit estimated at $21.3 billion.

California is a microcosm of the liberal dream for America. I can’t see the Obamites allowing this to happen, because it showcases everything wrong with their philosophy.

California just needs to incorporate as a bank or auto manufacturer, then they’ll get all the bailout money they need. As long as the feds think bailout money might actually go to help the common citizen, well then no deal. If they are buddies in big banking or wall street, then welcome to the party.

    That’s right:

Washington declines to help California, at least for now
Administration officials say the state can do more to solve the budget crisis on its own, they don’t have the authority to help — and if they did, it would set a dangerous precedent.

During the Cold war, the first world countries created safety nets to counter the excesses of capitalism, and prove that life could be better for workers there. Doesn’t Schwarzenegger realize that property rights aren’t absolute, but are based on trust by society. The recent election was designed to give them a justification to do this, but there is still major padding in the prison system, transportation etc that they haven’t touched.

Time for the “okies” to come back home.
