Step Right Up and Take a Ride on Thomas Friedman’s Hamster Wheel to the Good Life

September 10th, 2012

The truth is, if you want a decent life, make sure that you’re engaged in lifelong learning about how to avoid the hellish circle jerk described in this New York Times piece.

Check out the comments at the link if you need some comedy gold. Most people are telling Friedman where to insert it.

The truth is, if you want a decent job that will lead to a decent life today you have to work harder, regularly reinvent yourself, obtain at least some form of postsecondary education, make sure that you’re engaged in lifelong learning and play by the rules. That’s not a bumper sticker, but we terribly mislead people by saying otherwise.

    I think someone wrote a book titled ‘Someone moved my cheese’. It appears what he’s trying to do is move the goal posts, but keep people on the hamster wheel.

    While I have many doubts about the iPhone generation, the lack of jobs seems to be convincing many to give up on the system. I’m not sure people are going to fall for this as easily this time around.

    @Zuma That’s awesome!

    You should marry into money like Friedman did:

    Should Tom Friedman write about his family’s wealth?

    It’s actually always been “learn how to skirt the rules and how to game the system.” So now it is get out of the system.

    Actually, most of those comments seem to contain the standard liberal refrain of “its the Republicans’ fault”, ignoring the fact that the current “Progressive” White House occupant has been as much a loyal servant of the 1% as his predecessor. I’m amazed by how many people still buy into the partisan divide nonsense.

    thanks alvinroast. i seriously wish i could make up a stack of such bumperstickers -T-shirts too. & a top-slling CD by that name. i envision an army of graffiti artists tagging the whole country with that phrase. by gum, a veritable CSWPE movement. of course, then the wingnuts would claim it for their own… it’s not like anything needs to make actual sense any more. it’s a post-sense world, eh?
