Microsoft Office 2013 Ties Install to Single PC

February 17th, 2013

I’ve been fed up with MS Office for a long time. So much so, that I’ve struggled with slow performance, bugs and crashes with OpenOffice since the early 2000s, and more recently with LibreOffice. If your experience with these free packages has been crap, I understand.

The last couple releases of LibreOffice, however, have been fantastic!

If you’re gazing down the barrel of this ludicrous Microsoft nonsense, and haven’t tried LibreOffice in the past few months, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Via: Infoworld:

With Office 2010, depending on the version, you could install the product on two or three different PCs. With Office 2013, you only get a license for one PC. More than that, the license is tied to that PC — if your PC dies, for whatever reason, your license expires with it.

I recently upgraded to the recent Libreoffice 4 release and was pleasantly surprised to find Publisher file import a new feature. Free and open source office software has sure come a long way.

  2. I still use MS Office 2007, but thanks for the heads up on Libre Office, I’m gonna try it!
