Missouri’s governor ordered the National Guard onto the streets of Ferguson early Monday after another night of violence following the shooting of an unarmed black teen by police in the St. Louis suburb. “Tonight, a day of hope, prayers, and peaceful protests was marred by the violent criminal acts of an organized and growing number of individuals, many from outside the community and state, whose actions are putting the residents and businesses of Ferguson at risk,” Gov. Jay Nixon said in a statement. “Given these deliberate, coordinated and intensifying violent attacks on lives and property in Ferguson, I am directing the highly capable men and women of the Missouri National Guard to assist … in restoring peace and order to this community.”

I somehow just lost all of my previous comment. However anyone about 60 years old or so these days will most likely see the shades of the post Martin Luther King assassination reflected in the events surrounding Ferguson. Its not going to stop in Ferguson as far as I can tell. There will be, I believe, a “Hands UP, Don’t shoot,” phenomenon occurring round the world. I am pretty sure of it. Once something like this starts, and because it is so righteous to protest this killing, yes, I hope the shots fired into Michael Brown’s body are felt and heard around the world.
I don’t know what the age of people who read
Cryptogon is, and not that it matters, but I was a teen when Woodstock occurred, and I lost a sister to a car accident who had just previously spent a summer sitting in on protests against segregation in the southern US. Do I think she was killed on purpose? Sometimes I do. I’ll never know.
But I can tell you this, a fire has been lit in Ferguson. A shot that will be heard round the world. Don’t think me weird or somehow twisted, but it lights a fire within me to see people protesting the death of this man.
I don’t know how to say this: so here goes – if a cop tells you to stop walking in the middle of the street and shoots you because you don’t acquiesce? Lordy, it is time to have riots galore. I don’t care where what country you live in. It is just plain wrong.
