‘Tesla Powerwall 2 Is a Game Changer in Home Energy Storage’

October 28th, 2016

Disclosure: I sell solar power systems in New Zealand.

Yep. I’d agree with that.

As far as I can tell, this authoritatively blows away all other residential energy storage options.

14 kWh capacity for $5,500, 5kW (7kW peak) inverter included, AC/DC charging options. It looks like hybrid, backup and off-grid modes will be available.

This is a bit disturbing because this upsets the entire storage industry. There is no competition to this. For companies with existing energy storage offerings, there are two options:

1) Drastically drop prices

2) Die

And what’s Tesla going to do next year? Double the capacity again?

Via: Electrek:

Tesla just released all the details of its Powerwall 2 and it is a game changer for the residential energy storage. Tesla managed to double the energy capacity without doubling the price and while also adding a ‘fully integrated Tesla inverter’ into the home battery unit.

should I wait for it to come to NZ?! or just get something else…

If you can wait, definitely wait. This makes everything else out there look stupid.
