Trump Wants a ‘Grand Military Parade’ in Washington

At the urging of President Donald Trump, the Pentagon is moving forward on planning for “a grand military parade later this year showcasing the might of America’s armed forces,” the Washington Post reported Tuesday.

The paper said the cost of the parade “could run in the millions” given the cost to ship tanks and other hardware to Washington.

In September, Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron and remarked how he enjoyed watching France’s Bastille Day military parade in Paris.

“It was a tremendous day, and to a large extent because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July 4th in Washington down Pennsylvania Avenue,” Trump said in September. “We’re going to have to try to top it, but we have a lot of planes going over and a lot of military might, and it was really a beautiful thing to see, and representatives from different wars and different uniforms.”

According to the Post, Trump also made his views on holding the U.S. military parade known to top defense officials during a Jan. 18 defense briefing in the “tank” — a Pentagon secure room. The paper said that discussion ultimately “marked a tipping point,” citing two unnamed officials briefed on the planning.

“The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France,” the paper said, quoting an unnamed military official. “This is being worked at the highest levels of the military.”

The last major military parade held in Washington was in 1991 to mark victory in Operation Desert Storm, the first Persian Gulf War. It reportedly cost about $8 million and involved thousands of troops who fought in the war, nearly a dozen bands, a fleet of missiles, tanks and the flyover of more than 100 aircraft.

Either it’s just Trump being the impulsive clown he is or it’s more Deep State priming for a coming martial condition. Or a bit of both.

I’m going with D) all of the above.

After awhile, you begin to run out of oxymoron to describe the palaver on parade. This particular case inspires the odd juxtaposition “tone-deaf populist” : Ooooh — look Ivana, pretty colors, stylish uniforms and shiny man-toys. We should do this too, but bigger and better. The American Way. Like they do at Red Square. Oh, wait…

I stopped voting about fifteen years ago when I realized that the levers of election machinery weren’t connected to anything, at least on the federal level. Voting, as an exercise in futility, an exercise in delusion, seemed irresponsible; in reality contributing to the problem.

But politics didn’t really scare me until the Bush II era. The hybrid-fascist mechanisms were really starting to take shape. What’s evolving has no historical analog and we know it freaked out a lot of folks. So they voted Obama and made a significant change, in the facade. But the machinery behind the scenes grew stronger.

Next the batton would be passed back to Clintons. The game was fixed, and by this point it was so damned obvious. Sanders was eliminated as well as every viable republican. Trump remained, as planned, I assumed. I never liked him; elite asshole, who did?

But the growing malevolence got under my skin. So I voted. Not so much for Trump as against leviathan. Hahaha, like buying a lottery ticket, it’s just an ignorance tax. “Voting against leviathan” Now I’m laughing at the stupidity of what I just wrote.

Trump is a figurehead, no more and no less than all the others. Why is he president? Because of an overwhelming vote, or because an alternate state faction is using him?

But Christ, “Trump Says It Will Be Hard To Unify Country Without A Major Event.” Yeah, PNAC playbook. And now a military parade! Fuck. Add so many articles posted here, for years…

It’s a god damn ratchet, one way movement. When ‘the left’ is in power they are tricked into pushing on it. When ‘the right’ is in power, same thing.

The antics under the big top grow more surreal by the day.
