US President Donald Trump has tweeted that Russia should “get ready” for missiles to be fired at its ally Syria, in response to an alleged chemical attack near Damascus on Saturday.
“Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!'” Mr Trump said in his tweet.
Senior Russian figures have threatened to meet any US strikes with a response.
President Bashar al-Assad’s government denies mounting a chemical attack on the rebel-held town of Douma.
In one his tweets on Wednesday, Mr Trump called the Syrian leader a “gas killing animal”.
A few days ago Trump announces (verbally) pulling out of Syrian. I liked hearing it. Now Trump announces (via Twitter) a Syrian air strike, with baby talk. He’s said and tweeted some ridiculous stuff, but this is beyond confusing. It’s difficult to accept as real. Reminds me of an article here on Cryptogon of changing live video speech. Not really connecting any dots, just grasping for logic in a world gone mad.
I actually thought the quote in the BBC couldn’t be real. haha But there it is on The Orange One’s official Twitter feed.

All we need now is some kind of compelling narrative about how evil Trump’s voters are, you know, people with conservative views. And then, after the war ends, the survivors will know who to blame for it.
Can anything justify that presidential tweet—even 4D chess? Quite a stretch to believe that. Can anything explain it? Of course, just think of the complexity of our situation, and the amount of pressure that has come to bear on President Trump since the time his candidacy started gaining serious traction. He does represent a distinct faction of the Deep State, somewhat marginalized during the ascension of the other main faction during the presidency of Bill Clinton, then seriously so on 9/11. There are many possible reasons for that tweet, but the one I’m going with features many good high-level military people working with him to walk that escalation back down.
