Mexico Confirms Attacks on Pipelines
July 11th, 2007Via: Yahoo / AP:
Mexico’s government on Tuesday called a series of gas pipeline explosions a threat to the nation’s democratic institutions and vowed to step up security after a guerrilla group claimed responsibility for the blasts.
The Interior Department said it would take measures to protect “strategic installations” across Mexico after an explosion Tuesday at a pipeline run by the state-owned Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, and two other blasts that rocked gas ducts on Thursday.
“The Mexican government categorically condemns the attacks against Pemex facilities. This criminal conduct aims to weaken democratic institutions, the patrimony of Mexicans and the safety of their families,” the statement said.
While officials said investigations were continuing into the cause of the blasts, the statement by the Interior Department — responsible for domestic security — came a short time after a small guerrilla group said its members had planted explosives on the pipelines.

very interesting news. Mexicans really need that pemex money to keep the water flowing into Mexico City and the lights on at the Maquiladoras.
If an internal group trips up Pemex, they’ll be bringing their show down faster.
You do realise these attacks will expand. At which point the Mexican government will ask the US government for assistance. At which point, because oil is real valuable, ya know? the US will send in some troops from somewhere, just to “help out.” Then, ’cause them troops are already getting’ damn pretty thin on the ground, some bright spark will announce the first wave of inductions.
Since these boys won’t be doin much but chasin’ down a bunch of “dumb Mexicans,” who’re just as likely to wind up as “illegal immigrants,†nobody’ll complain. Not one bit. After all, cain’t let a good friend like Mexico down now, cain we?.
Of course, that’ll be followed by a second wave of inductions, and so on until, wouldn’t you just know it, some of them boys are on the way to EyeRack. Maybe even EyeRan. Turns out we got too many of ‘em to keep ‘em all down Mexico way.
@Kevin,
I assume I offended you?
Considering the condition of the Mexican fuel infrastructure, are they sure the explosions weren’t accidents and the “terrorists” aren’t just taking advantage?
Remember the gasoline explosion a few years ago in the Mexico City sewers? Same company.
Well, if there ever is such a thing as a North American Union, it would amount to “counter-insurgency” in our own “legal” backyard.
My bet is that the drug cartels are spanking the central government, sending a message that perhaps a softer line in the ongoing strife on the US border might be in everyone’s best intrest.
I know the internet is just as much a control mechanism as any but: Snowden, Goritsas, Ozzy and Kevin- I’m glad you guys are out there, truly, at least thinking about these things(and voicing your opinion). Thanks.
I love it. Viva las Mexicanos. Viva La Revolution! I think the blowing up of pipelines is a continuation of a protest/rebellion against a stolen election. Mexicano’s everywhere were in protest and rebellion against it’s electronic, non-ballot counting, Bush backed, un-elected government for months. But oh that story got so boring – sheesh, the US press dropped the stolen election story on the country that is the main supplier of their most precious drug – oil – with a big YAWN. Idiots abound.
As with anywhere else in the world these days there is extreme wealth as well as poverty in Mexico. Ten yrs ago or more went to Cuernavaca – your “basic” walled community of stone mansions, hotels, you name it. Guards outside the big houses on weekends with machine guns. Previous to that my experience of Mexico was right over the US border south of L.A. where cardboard shacks line the hillsides, and mile after mile of people just stood there along the highway waiting for something. Truly 3rd world.
Beyond the border zone Mexico is WAAY beyond the U.S. Mexico has a heritage and culture that the U.S. should only envy. Pyramids as great as those on the Nile; a seed saving culture as well. They treasure their corn seed and have done so for over 2 thousand years. Oh and then the US had to force GMO seed on them.
I support their revolution. Methinks neither the dreamed for anero, nor the super highway from hell will go down without a LARGE fight from Mexico. You know, those folks who we’re building a fence against to protect the people from this great backwater nation of immigrants who forgot where their family came from, and whose identity gets fuzzier and more and more identified with being an aggressive killer species and whose bodies and bottoms get larger and larger as the poison of TV commercials suck the marrow from their souls. Viva Zapatos!!!!
Save your soul!! Unplug the TV!!!
