Foot and Mouth Released from Lab: ‘Shocking Security Lapse’
August 8th, 2007Only a moron would be “shocked” by this news.
Via: Telegraph:
A Health and Safety Executive inquiry said there was a “strong possibility” that the virus came from the Government-licensed Pirbright complex in Surrey, which is just three miles from the two farms that have been contaminated.
It is likely workers at the site – shared between the Institute for Animal Health (IAH) and its commercial partner, Merial Animal Health – were to blame for spreading the disease, the report said.
In a further twist, the HSE said that sabotage at the labs could not be ruled out. Ironically, the Government has just asked Merial to produce 300,000 foot and mouth vaccines.
Politicians and farmers’ leaders were last night asking how such a fundamental breach could occur at a high-security laboratory complex where highly contagious diseases were tested.
Peter Ainsworth, the Conservative environment spokesman, said: “This is truly shocking. It will be very bad news for the farming community, who do so much to make sure they abide by the law.
“This report is devastating in its conclusions and it will be deeply troubling news for farmers, who are always being pushed to improve their bio-security. Yet the labs that are meant to be preventing the disease turn out to be the source of the outbreak.”
Farmers were furious that their livelihoods were possibly being put at risk by Government scientists.

Its the clearest indication that there will be an early election in the UK
“Only a moron would be “shocked†by this news.” Why only a moron Kevin, are rest of us taking this as granted? After all they efforts of telling us that the biolabs are so secure, they go and do this, doesn’t that shock you? Not even a bit?
“Not even a bit?”
No. Not even a bit. Note the category that this is posted in: Kill Off.
Truly shocking, especially after the incident where a son in law of a TB researcher travels with TB; or anthrax seems to be traced to – an anthrax lab!
Goodness, will our government never learn!

Governments and firms long ago learned the use of a deliberate info or mis-info “leak” to the enws; they’ve long known actual leaks can be just as profitable.
If this were part of an evil scheme, then I’d think there would not be any news about it, and that the damage would be on a much larger scale.
Without further information, I’m going to assume this is just another consequence of average every day incompetence. When making vaccines, you do need samples of the real deal. Some intern probably seriously f*ed up and handled one improperly.
Or Uncle Sam needs to manufacture another scare to keep people distracted from real issues.
“Or Uncle Sam needs to manufacture another scare to keep people distracted from real issues.”
Definitely. However I think this is a fringe benefit to the real agenda: keep adding layer upon layer of manufactured fear so that the sheeple will panic and demand more “safety”.
“Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, …” Ah never mind, what’s the point.
@ A Pragmatist: Please,it’s just another test case to see hope much the sheep will keep accepting b/4 the big one is unleashed . . . these type labs doing biowarfare “research” are all over, and I do mean all over, the USA, some in the weirdest most populated locations possible (makes “no sense” huh?) . . . just waiting for the next “incompetence” scenario i.e. 911=FBI,CIA,NSA “incompetence”; mass murder fiasco in Iraq=Bush “incompetence”; escape of Bin Laden = “incompetence”; “malfunctioning” voting machines giving Bush & supporters all “malfunctioning” votes = incompetence blah, blah, blah = incompetence – – – wake up and get a clue . . . .
I would be really shamed of being US citizen and poisoning their closest ally in Europe. As a Finnish person, I would be so shamed if my country would have done such a drastic action on foreign country soil. Then again, if you think about US poisoning Iraq soil with depleted uranium, then the foot and mouth diseaseis relative small compared to that. Maybe you are right about this Kevin, maybe it really do belong to no shocking kill-off category.
However, as I have lived in UK for over five years, I have grown to trust that their bio-safety is on same standards as ours in Finland, but Ken Alibak was right in his book, and US bio-safety is as shambles as it was in USSR biopreparat.
Well, anyways, I am shocked about that piece of news, but they have been touting it since last saturday. Maybe the news is really getting old.
