The Secret Cycle

October 9th, 2009

Reader AD sent in an excellent New Yorker piece that will be of great interest to anyone who dabbles in financial woowoo arts and crafts. While the focus is on conman/genius? Martin Armstrong, there’s something here for most Cryptogon readers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this.

If you look for a pattern hard enough, you will find it. The pattern I like to look for is that of a relative handful of intelligent, ruthless, well-organized individuals working in tandem through fictional entities like governments and corporations to exploit the guilelessness, stupidity, and greed of the herd.

That’s where this piece falls predictably short; it neglects this time-honored pattern of cyclical shearing, harvesting or reaping, although it occasionally drops a few hints in that direction.
