MSNBC: Lead in Food and Toys from China Keeps Prices Low, and Mortgage Rates Low, Too
August 19th, 2007Via: The Vanguardian:
“I think people should be careful what they wish for on China. Ya know, if China were to revalue it’s currency or China is to start making say, toys that don’t have lead in them or food that isn’t poisonous, their costs of production are going to go up and that means prices at Wal-Mart here in the United States are going to go up too. So, I would say China is our greatest friend right now, they’re keeping prices low and they’re keeping the prices for mortgages low, too.”

I saw this. Despite Erin’s hotness and her explanation of this comment later in the week (which was legit)… this was a stupid comment. She was generally correct, but said it in a horribly stupid way.
how was she able to say something like that with a straight face? disgusting….. i hope this is not indicative of the times we are in, where profits are more important than eating food that, oh i dont know, say, is not poisonous for you.
I’m confused. Is she being sarcastic or is she actually serious?
LOL! I guess she doesn’t mind buying unsafe products as long as they are cheap. Now I have heard of everything. 🙂
Woooowwww. Poisoning yourself or paying more. Tough decision.
I think it’s poisoning your children or paying more, a tougher call for some.
I had this exact same conversation with a friend the other day. You mean to tell me that it is more important for Joe and Jane Sixpack to drive around in overpriced crappy automobiles than to buy their children toys that are actually safe to play with? The insanity is overwhelming.
China has been thoroughly exposed as the next nation that will become a military superpower because they will pick through the manufacturing sector and universities for brains to apply to military technology, aka the science of killing people.
Its also important to remember that children will always find stuff to play with. I remember mixing dirt and water together as a child, and this kept me just as intrigued as any other toy (yes, I’m simple minded).
Here’s a link to a toy manufacturer that lists all American made toys separately, even though it’s not a guarantee of safety. I’m sure there are many others.

too bad her wikipedia entry is already locked over some dispute. would have made an interesting addition to her quote section … sick.
This is the goofiest thing I’ve heard since I did day care and the county health department nurse told me that, naturally, concerns about liability would make me more careful about other people’s kids safety and well-being than about my own.
You have to wonder if some of these people ever listen to what they just said. Money a more important factor in how you care for children than anything else? I would be less concerned about the safety and well-being of my own kids than about other people’s kids because there were no legal/financial liability issues connected with my care of my own kids?
Who ARE these people?
I have read in NLP materials that non sequiturs like these are often delivered to soften up a target’s subconscious mind. Essentially a comment that sounds logical on the most surface level, but actually makes no sense. This supposedly puts the mind in a state of confusion, grasping for answers, and whatever it is told next is more readily accepted in a desperate attempt to make sense out of the situation.

So what came on immediately after this clip?
Alex Jones played the audio of this clip on his show today. And he said the same thing. Something along the lines of “the psychologists back stage made her say this, folks. They are trying to program you into double-thinking, ‘oh, without China we can’t poison our kids! What ever are we gonna do??'”
The whole incident made me think of Adam Curtis’ (the guy who made “Power of Nightmares” for the BBC) documentary “Pandora’s Box”, about Edward Bernays, the father of modern propaganda.
