Henrik Svensmark Heart Attack
December 14th, 2009I’ve only personally seen one person have a heart attack (my dad), but it didn’t look anything like this at all. Does anyone out there—who has witnessed a heart attack (or experienced one personally)—have any comments about this?
Is the hit-by-taser looking reaction related to his pace maker?

On live TV during the COP15 Climate 09 debate on DR1, Henrik Svensmark was hit by a heart attack and his pacemaker kicked in.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital, and according to the latest reports his condition is steady now.

Looks more like the reaction from an implanted defibrulator device. It zaps the heart rythym back when a person experiences ventricular tachacardia. Pacemakers just regulate rythym. My Dad had the defib device. He would be perfectly fine, then jump off the chair when it whacked him.
You aren’t allowed to drive if you have one of these. Does he drive?
Yep, looks like he is getting defibbed. It appears to happen three separate times in that clip (poor guy)

The latest reports say that Henrik Svensmark is well again.
But that was not the case for the 51 year old climate expert when he last night sank to the floor during a live debate on climate after the late news broadcast on DR1.
Hundreds of thousands of shocked viewers watched as Henrik Svensmark grabbed his chest and plunged to the floor as if struck by a hammer.
Everything indicates that it was an ICD implanted pacemaker which struck him down.
Advanced equipment
This type of advanced cardiac pacemaker gives the patient an electric shock to counteract disturbances in heart rhythm and restore normal rhythm.
But it can sometimes be very violent, and in such cases it can throw the patient immediately to the floor. It seems very dramatic, but often the patient is well again relatively quickly.
Anja Andersen’s collapse
ICD-pacemaker also worn by, among other FCK’s football coach StÃ¥le Solbakken and handball legend Anja Andersen.
The latter saw in 2005 a dramatic collapse during a match at Brondby-Hallen, where her ICD-pacemaker stretched her to the ground.
In some cases, patients may experience several successive ‘blows’ from the ICD, and if so, the impact can be severe and arduous.
But ICD (implenterbar cardioverter defibrillator) is actually a brilliant invention that could save many lives. More than 3,000 Danes are living today with this type of pacemaker.
Feeling good
According to Reimer Bo Christensen, the studio host when the researcher collapsed with chest pain, Svensmark is, under the circumstances, well.
“I have spoken with Henrik Svensmark’s wife, who says he feels fine, and remains for observation at Rigshospitalet”, said Reimer Bo Christensen at dr.dk.
The wife saw it happen on TV
Reimer Bo Christensen also says that Svensmark’s wife thanks DR News for responding quickly to her husband’s indisposition.
“She saw the broadcast directly, and she was very pleased that DR telephoned her shortly after the attack, so she could speak with her husband, who was conscious the whole time,” says Reimer Bo Christensen.

Assisted by google translate, but I fixed the worst weirdness, so it should be reasonably coherent.
