IRS Commissioner Doesn’t File His Own Taxes; Tax Code Too Complex
January 12th, 2010Via: The Hill:
IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman does not file his own taxes in part because he believes the tax code is complex.
During an interview on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” program that aired on Sunday, Shulman said he uses a tax preparer for his own returns.
“I’ve used one for years. I find it convenient. I find the tax code complex so I use a preparer,” Shulman said.
Pressed on how he would make the tax code simpler, Shulman responded, “I don’t write the tax laws. Congress writes the tax laws so that’s a whole different discussion.”

MORON
Ignoramous.
Tax Act is the best program.
At least where I live we happen to have a transparent system, six or eight sheets of paper, which you just precisely fill out and it has its logic printed on it. So everyone sees right there what he should do.
It gets a lot more complex when you have deposits in several banks (more lines to fill out), some shares from different companies (uuuh, more lines to fill out), tax exempt accounts (for saving), uh, nothing to fill out.
I do not understand how in the world any state can produces such a complicated system like germany and the US have. The holes we have here are intended and in the open view for all: deduct works on the house, twist the balance sheet a little to pay less taxes etc. I suspect thats why countries like luxembourg, switzerland and other little countries are under attack, because they could it make quickly even easier to pay taxes.
Do no forget that most ppl hate paying taxes, but when it isn’t that high and the forms aren’t deliberately complicated, mostly everyone pays his or her share. So instead of simplifing fiscal matters, they bash other countries and make some tax heavens themselves (delaware, british islands etc).
I suspect that a complicated tax code is entirely intentional, for one simple purpose; to make it impossible for you to ensure that you are in compliance. This way you’re always wondering if there’s some rule you’re breaking and the government always has something to threaten you with.
Incidentally, this principle operates in many other areas as well. I consider it one of the main purposes of having laws in the first place.
