August Earnings
September 11th, 2010Cryptogon earnings in August came to a total of $1005.22. Thank you to the handful of generous direct contributors and to everyone who conducted business via affiliate links on Cryptogon.
The Amazon activity can only be described as spectacular. To look at the individual commission payments (some as little as one cent), you wouldn’t think that you’re going to wind up with $400 at the end of the month… but there it is! Everything counts. (Almost everything. Someone bought an item that cost a penny. So, no commission on that.)
I don’t know what happened with BlueHost signups. Those have sharply declined in recent months. Impressions and clickthroughs haven’t changed, but people just aren’t signing up. I thought that maybe people are looking at the prospect of paying $6.95 per month and wondering if they can get away with paying $5 or $2 or whatever. For very low traffic sites, I don’t doubt that a plan that costs less than $7 might be ok. Keep in mind, though, that Cryptogon isn’t a low traffic site. Tens of thousands of people show up here every month, the feed is syndicated live by hundreds of other sites, and it’s dynamic, meaning that that the MYSQL database is being called a lot. I use the same BlueHost plan that is available to everyone else. As someone who used to be responsible for providing these types of services to corporations, I laugh about what I’m getting from the BlueHost service for $6.95 per month. It’s incredible.
Now, if you happen to sign up with BlueHost, please email me and let me know. It’s such a high value commission ($90) that I’d just like to make sure that things are being counted properly. If you want to be sure that your signup will generate a commission for Cryptogon, scroll down the Support page to the section on BlueHost.
Thanks again to everyone who kept us on the air in August.
