Wal-Mart: Our Shoppers Are ‘Running Out of Money’

April 28th, 2011

Via: CNN:

Wal-Mart’s core shoppers are running out of money much faster than a year ago due to rising gasoline prices, and the retail giant is worried, CEO Mike Duke said Wednesday.

“We’re seeing core consumers under a lot of pressure,” Duke said at an event in New York. “There’s no doubt that rising fuel prices are having an impact.”

Wal-Mart shoppers, many of whom live paycheck to paycheck, typically shop in bulk at the beginning of the month when their paychecks come in.

Lately, they’re “running out of money” at a faster clip, he said.

“Purchases are really dropping off by the end of the month even more than last year,” Duke said. “This end-of-month [purchases] cycle is growing to be a concern.

Its not “nice” to see that Walmart is suffering because so many people depend on this shit for brains store that has decimated the United States in terms of local stores for hardware, lumber, plants, foods, you name it. Yeah, Walmart and Lowes and Hone Depot. Pitiful.
    China, China, China.
I’ve been finding and buying clothes nmade in the U.S, Even found an alarm clock made in the USof A.
Not sure about Amazon. Are they staffed by $1 an hour people in India? China? Wherever?
Makes me wonder, who gets paid when I shop on Amazon?
Oh well, anyways, there is this great place, IBEX.com that make clothes in the USA from New Zealand wool. http://www.ibex.com.
Probably the best clothing I’ve ever owned.
That was a detour. So sorry. Wishing you peace, prosperity, protection from all the Fukashima fallout.
    Have a Namaste.

Ibex explicitly states the source of the materials and where the garment is made. That’s fantastic.

I’ve noticed a very common scam with clothing lately:

Some brands hang a big tag on clothing that says New Zealand Wool and if you look very closely, you’ll find that the thing is made in China. Sadly, New Zealand companies are doing this!
