Are Dealers Running Low on Silver?

March 21st, 2008

Maybe people who are into holding physical silver can provide some reports on availability with their dealers…

Via: Silver Seek:

Since my email earlier tonight, where I reported that 5-6 major silver dealers (Amark, Tulving, 2 in Vancouver, my local dealer, NWT Mint) are “out of inventory”, 13 more reports came in, saying that the dealers were out of silver inventory. Some of these names are big names in the business, Scotia bank, the Perth Mint in Australia, CNI Numismatics in LA, APMEX says they have some items, but are looking to buy.

Australian Bullion Company has silver available to small buyers (that’s not to say large amounts AREN’T available through it’s just that I was reading last week about a seller in the U.S. who was only selling amounts $5,000 or more due to difficulties with availability.) ABC provides physical storage for free: http://www.ausbullion.com.au/bullion.html#advantages

    whoops…’though’ not ‘through’.

    Interesting.

I bought 40 ounces about 3 weeks ago. Still waiting for 20 of them. My dealer (in LA) told me that they were somewhere in the office – that he’s having trouble finding them.

Which I have no problem in believing – he’s a small operation, but is more used to dealing with larger sales than mine – so I’m really small fry.

I’d have thought he’d have mentioned shortages if they were happening. He knows my opinions on PMs.

I’ll see him again shortly and ask if he knows anything.
