Almost a quarter century after the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear meltdown in Ukraine, its fallout is still a hot topic in some German regions, where thousands of boars shot by hunters still turn up with excessive levels of radioactivity. In fact, the numbers are higher than ever before.

That sounds like a damn nightmare. Imagine being surrounded by wild game and not being able to eat any of it. Terrible, truly terrible.

In fact, I fear US wildlife is not far behind. I come from a very long line of nature-folk who have been killing game for family sustenance for generations. Contamination of local groundwater, especially in the last two decades, has become a major concern for fish and game enthusiasts. Here we just have to deal with pesticides and hormone misbalancing chemicals, but we keep on eating it because we have to. But with the Trojan nuclear power plant not far north and Hanford not much further than that, nuclear contamination could become a very real threat with an earthquake or strong enough storm.

You just can’t convince me enough that nuclear power is a viable option. Not after Chernobyl, and especially not after Fukushima. Pour more R&D into thorium or something and we’ll talk, but I’ve had enough of this weapons-waste nuclear bullshit.
