Off Topic: Telecom XT Billing Fraud

July 19th, 2011

This is for readers in New Zealand.

I just had an interesting call from the New Zealand Commerce Commission that left me smiling. Remember the post called, Don’t Be a Victim of Telecom New Zealand?

I was definitely not the only one.

An official investigation is underway.

If you are a Telecom XT user, check your usage online against the charges that appear on your actual bill. If you find discrepancies, the Commerce Commission needs to know about it right now. Write a formal letter and submit your evidence here.

When presented with evidence of their fraudulent activities, Telecom issued me a refund, but submitting careful documentation to the authorities is the right course of action now. Telecom New Zealand is a public menace. Civil or criminal proceedings are necessary here.

“Thank you for your email regarding Telecom and XXXXXX’s broadband account. I have loaded you enquiry in our database, at this stage we don’t require any further information.

Telecom is in the process of identifying the affected customers to provide compensation. Your mother may wish to contact them directly regarding her compensation if she hasn’t already heard from them.”

    we shall see…
    that’s what i got…

    @tochigi

I didn’t post about it, but, oh yes, I saw it.

Now, CC is looking at XT (mobile) billing issues. My case was specifically about XT.

  4. Ace says:

Do you use Telecom for broadband, too? I switched to TelstraClear when I learned they run their own dedicated overseas trunk line. Much faster than most other carriers, which seem to share trunks. It runs much faster for me.

  5. tochigi says:

@Ace: Kevin is in the middle of the wopwops. he only has very limited options for fast, reliable network access.

  6. Kevin says:

There is no DSL infrastructure out here at all. The options are Telecom XT, Vodafone mobile (barely) or satellite (expensive, doesn’t work in strong rain, 2000ms space hop). That’s it.
