Feds Probe Possible ‘Arabic-Type’ Markings On Southwest Jets

September 22nd, 2011

Watch out for those possible “Arabic-Type” markings!

Someone queue the ghost of Bin Laden effect and the Theremin.

Ready, and……… ACTION!

Via: CBS – Los Angeles:

Federal agencies were working with Southwest Airlines on Thursday to determine who has been vandalizing their aircraft with mysterious markings.

KNX 1070 investigative reporter Charles Feldman has learned that since February, several Southwest jets have been vandalized with mysterious writings that show up on the underbelly of their 737 passenger aircraft.

The writings — which some have interpreted as being either Arabic or Arabic-type symbols — appeared to have been done with a chemical process that reveals the text once an auxiliary power unit is turned on and heats up the outside skin of the aircraft, according to Feldman.

While it remains unclear how many aircraft are involved, the trend has reportedly increased in recent weeks.

Southwest Airlines has ordered its employees not to discuss the matter with the media, Feldman said.

At Alaska airlines, they got the bright idea of saving money by dismissing baggage and ground crew and getting a temp staffing company to fill these jobs with a lower wage. After that, there was a series of accidents where new workers bumped the airplane with the ladder, didn’t lock the baggage hold tight enough so it came open in flight, or the kids they hired wrote graffiti slogans in black marker as messages to the ground crew in other cities.

@quintanus Beautiful. Thanks for the link and analysis.

So the Feds are being called in to create fear because underpaid temps working at the airport are tagging the planes.

    Perhaps out of embarrassment.

Thanks Kevin. Hang on to your sense of humor since big brother never stops doing really stupid stuff.

I agree with your choice to mark this story as “false flag operations”. I had to dig around a bit to find more information on this. It’s kind of like hearing someone talk about seeing a real UFO video, and actually seeing it for yourself to find out that it’s a clip from some Sci-fi B-movie.

Here’s photos of the “mysterious markings”

They aren’t written in some caustic chemical. In reading around, the airline believes it to be soot or grease. It could likely be a high temperature grease. But where, or where would someone find grease on or around an airliner. Oh ya, *on* the airliner.

So what about the symbol? Well, Arabic is similar to English in that they have a (wait for it….) alphabet. So a symbol such as what was displayed would represent one letter.

Well, I broke out our good friend Google to get a clear explanation of the Arabic alphabet.

Hmmm. None of those characters match. Maybe it’s something a bit more familiar to the majority of the population in the United States, where Southwest flies. Oh ya, a stylized letter X.

But lets not finger Americans in this evil plot to overthrow the American government, and rain terror down on it’s people. It is also similar to the Greek letter Chi.

Or even the Cyrillic letter Kha

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kha_%28Cyrillic%29

damn, if those two interscting squiggles are letters, it could be someone who speaks English, Greek, Russian, or any of the number of languages that share the same character set. Similar characters show up in Chinese and Japanese too.

Pretty much, if the language is spoken in the Northern hemisphere (except Arabic and Hindi), it contains that letter. And oohh, what an evil letter it is. Obviously it’s the terrorists.

It would be a non-story if someone hadn’t fluffed it up into being a homeland security issue. Nope, it would have been a company memo saying “please don’t wipe grease on the outside of the aircraft”. I worry more when they decide that they don’t need an engine cowl, or they’re using duct tape (err, 300 mile per hour tape) to secure loose pieces.

So, who would have fluffed this up to be news? Well, I could see the government wanting to install paranoia in its citizens. But I suspect that may not be the case. It’s most likely the commercial news media, taking any non-story, throwing a few buzz words in it, and making headlines with it. They do anything to make an extra buck. You and I, we just care about news.
