Kickstarter: Low Cost, Open Source, 1KW Stirling Engine

November 15th, 2011

For several years, I’ve wondered why there aren’t any affordable Stirling engines available that are capable of producing meaningful amounts of electricity.

I have no idea if Volo Designs will manage to pull it off, but I’m happy to help them try.

Just when I had given up on Kickstarter you just had to post this. Most awesome thing I’ve seen in a long time. Thanks!

There’s also this crowd from Christchurch: http://www.whispergen.com/

Yep, they’ve been around for a while. £9,995 doesn’t count as an affordable solution in my book. I don’t know what it sells for domestically in NZ, so I went to look and…

    PLEASE NOTE:

The off-grid DC WhisperGen™ heat and power system is not longer available as our factory in Christchurch was severely damaged and was demolished as a result of the earthquakes in February 2011.

    So… Yeah.
