Berlin Start-Up Aims to Revolutionize Clothes Shopping

Two young Berlin entrepreneurs have an ingeniously simple idea for helping the clothing industry break through on the Internet. Their UPcload service measures people with a webcam more accurately than any person could. It could revolutionize shopping for clothes online — if the fashion industry cooperates.

Very cool. I had this idea many years ago, but the technology wasn’t there yet. They’re not doing the manufacturing for custom sizes, but it’s only a matter of time before someone figures that out with robotic laser cloth cutting.
I think the idea came to me in the late nineties after getting a tailor made suit in Thailand for less than the price of off-the-rack in the states. The tailor said I could just email him if my size changed, but sending biometric data would be even better.
Hmm…
i remember seeing something about the military using lasers and 3d digitizing to fit recruits w/ better uniforms. this was many years ago, but i remember thinking it was a great idea for all clothes really. like alot of military tech i guess, glad some of it goes to good use tho.
