December 22nd, 2011Panetta declared the war over. And then…
Via: Washington Post:
More than a dozen explosions in Baghdad on Thursday killed at least 63 people — the first major violence in Iraq since the U.S. completed its troop pullout.
At least 194 people were reported injured in the two-hour spate of bombings, said officials at the Ministry of Interior, who were speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
The violence comes just days after the end of U.S. combat operations in Iraq, and in the midst of an ongoing governmental emergency in which sectarian rifts and ethnic tension threaten to rip apart the country’s fragile ruling coalition.

Interestingly enough, Germany and Japan are still occupied nations… approaching SEVENTY years after the “formal” conclusion of hostilities.
Yes, these days they are officially “invited” to be there via NATO and all that — nearly 20 years after the dissolution of Ronnie’s “evil empire”, which served as the primary rationale for NATO’s existence in the first place. And still NATO remains firmly rooted in European soil.
US troops and “advisors” have boots on the ground in more places around the world than ever before — all in the name of “peace” and “freedom”.
Is it just me or are there not one but SEVERAL large pink animals in the room?
It was “legally” never a war, but an invasion. There have been a few journalists in NZ done for calling it a war (re accuracy in reporting)- but now everyone goes back to saying it was a war…
Today’s Brainteaser, as RBNZ touched on: How can you declare the end of an undeclared war?…
