Speaking of affiliate links, I have a new affiliate relationship that might be of interest to the couple of hundred of you reading in New Zealand: Living Foods Lifestyle.
We had been ordering raw bee pollen from the U.S. because we couldn’t find anything like that in New Zealand. All of the bee pollen products available here are in a dried out, crunchy form that is very definitely not as good as the raw/soft stuff. But who knows what percentage of that U.S. pollen contains GMO??? Fortunately, I found a fantastic high pollen count honey from, you guessed it, Living Foods Lifestyle here in New Zealand:
I’ve eaten a lot of honey over the years, but I’ve never seen or tasted anything like this. If you’ve ever eaten raw/soft bee pollen, you’ll recognize that distinct taste when you eat this honey. You might be familiar with raw honey, but this is very different from regular raw honey. Regular raw honey looks clean and filtered compared to this stuff. I hope you’ll give some a try to show your appreciation to Living Foods Lifestyle for making such a special product in New Zealand.

Why don’t you keep you own bees – their product is quite expensive ? I expect any unfiltered honey is hight in pollen.
It’s a good question. I was actually quite keen to try keeping bees years ago.
The reason why I don’t is because bee keeping is very difficult up here. People who have been keeping bees for decades are having trouble keeping them alive up here now.

Sadly, it’s like, if I wanted to expend a lot of time, effort and expense to wind up being disappointed, I’d get into bee keeping.
NZ$32 for the occasional kilo of that special stuff, or NZ$18 for our local raw honey seems somewhat worth it if you know what’s involved with keeping bees. We thought our local stuff was good, but the pollen count can’t be anything like that expensive stuff because it’s visually different (there are chunks of pollen and comb in it) and there’s a stronger taste of pollen.
On a happy note: There are lots of bees out in our garden right now, and it is possible to do it up here for people who take the activity seriously:

There’s a non-Kiwi woman near here (decided not to write her nationality because this place is an effing village) who seems to be doing fine with her bees, but when I asked questions about what she was doing differently than everyone else, she abruptly changed the subject and kinda ran off a minute later. haha.
