Pope Francis: Open Thread

March 14th, 2013

I’ve only spent about a minute on this so far and here are my impressions: 1) He doesn’t look much like a Sith Lord and 2) He isn’t a former Nazi.

Mmkay?

Is this Petrus Romanus?

Will he welcome our alien overlords?

The first Jesuit Pope will______ (Fill in the blank).

Etc. etc.

The first Jesuit Pope will not wear ruby red slippers (and have a pair for each day for the next sixty years). He also may not know the meaning of bumf**k, or bl*wjob. But that’s okay by me. I am glad for those who hold faith with the Catholic Church have a new leader and he brings those who still have Catholicism as their religion some peace from their sorrows with this totally immoral and holier than thou conciousness that has plagued Catholicism from the get go.

The first Jesuit Pope will attempt to keep the lid on Church and state complicity and cooperation in Operation Condor as well as reverse the tide of surging leftist populism in Latin America.

He’s a Jesuit which generally means Machiavellian, serpentine duplicity on a level that would make Machiavelli blush.

Of course, I take the long established Protestant view that the office of the Papacy is “the man of sin” or “Antichrist” of the Bible. And while I place no faith in centuries old visions / ostensible prophecies emanating from within the Roman Catholic institution, it doesn’t mean I exclude the possibility of there being a superlative, end-of-the-ages incarnation of the Antichrist. If the Jesuit is found dead within a few weeks or months with a hideous grimace on his face, we’ll know he was just another effeminate old run-of-the-mill pope.

put a humble face back on an office that lost the meaning of humility a long, long time ago.

read: bear the pain of ugly times without complaint, leading the flock as an example of quiet submission to [insert overlord and/or tragedy here].
