In the last 41 years, Herman Wallace has been incarcerated for a robbery he did commit, indicted for a murder a court ruled he didn’t and diagnosed with a cancer that will end his life. But Tuesday night, he passed through the prison gates and, as a free man, made his way back to the city in which he grew up — New Orleans.

He was in solitary confinement longer than anyone else in the US. I’m glad to see the judge make the right call in ordering the state to release him. He may have been a petty thief in the 70’s, that certainly doesn’t warrant him being imprisoned in solitary for that long for a crime he didn’t even commit.

That kind of courage and strength of character is inspirational. No chance of it I guess but I hope he recovers.
