U.S. Navy Scaling Up Fuel from Seawater Program

Navy researchers at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Materials Science and Technology Division, demonstrate proof-of-concept of novel NRL technologies developed for the recovery of carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen (H2) from seawater and conversion to a liquid hydrocarbon fuel.

    Apparently, the process requires a lot of electricity. I’d like to see how energy in/out compares.

    I could see it being useful at a large scale for nations like NZ & Iceland that depend on petroleum imports and have ready access to hydro and geothermal sources of electricity.
