Suspect Killed with Explosive Delivered by Robot

Police used a “bomb robot” early Friday to kill a gunman after five police officers were killed and seven others wounded in downtown Dallas during a protest over recent police shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana, officials said.

“We cornered one suspect and we tried to negotiate for several hours,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said during a Friday morning news conference, but “negotiations broke down” and turned into “an exchange of gunfire with the suspect.”

The suspect was identified as Micah X. Johnson, 25, a resident of the Dallas area, two U.S. law enforcement officials said.

Johnson had no known criminal history or ties to terror groups, the official said, and has relatives in Mesquite, Texas, which is just east of Dallas. The official said federal agents were assisting Dallas authorities in the investigation.

Brown said a hostage negotiator spoke with the gunman at length before he was killed about 2:30 a.m.. The chief said the attacker said he was upset “with white people” and with recent police shootings. The suspect also said that he was not affiliated with any groups and that he acted alone, Brown said.

“The suspect said we will eventually find the IEDs,” Brown said, a reference to explosives. “He wanted to kill officers. And he expressed killing white people, killing white officers, he expressed anger for Black Lives Matter.”

“We saw no other option than to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension to detonate where the suspect was,” Brown said, adding that, “other options would have exposed our officers to grave danger.”

Brown said reports that the suspect shot himself were incorrect. “The suspect is deceased as a result of detonating the bomb,” he said.

Brown said other suspects were in custody, but declined to say how many. Other officials said three suspects were in custody.

Dallas police were locked in a standoff early Friday after snipers shot 11 officers, five fatally, during a protest over recent shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana.

Three people were in custody and a fourth suspect was exchanging gunfire with authorities in a parking garage downtown, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said.

The remaining suspect “has told our negotiators that the end is coming, and he is going to hurt and kill more of us, meaning law enforcement, and that there are bombs all over the place in this garage and downtown,” Brown said.

At least two snipers fired from an elevated positions on police officers minutes before 9 p.m. CT, according to Brown. He described the shootings as “ambush style.”

“We believe that these suspects were positioning themselves in a way to triangulate on these officers from two different perches in garages in the downtown area, and planned to injure and kill as many law enforcement officers as they could,” he told a news conference — noting that some were shot in the back.

Fox showed a clip of one of the shooters shooting an officer. The shooter was on the sidewalk, using cover, shooting and moving.

FWIW, as someone who has taken more than 75 hours of rifle training, the shooter was moving like someone who has been trained; alternating sides of cover, pinning the cop with fire and maneuvering against him while fireing, then pushing through the downed officer’s position while taking fire from other officers.

    This is a new phase.

They were very clearly talking about snipers on rooftops, triangulation and so on, now they insist there was only the one guy…

Anyway let’s see what happens with gun control now that it’s blacks shooting white cops with assault weapons.

While it was happening, I was wondering how long it would take for lone-nutification to occur…

“Five Dallas police officers were killed by a lone attacker, authorities say”

    Bullshit.

    I don’t know guys.

The talk about snipers on rooftops and triangulation was all rushed and thirdhand info out of a gunfight in a build up urban area. I can buy that the guy I saw in the video was capable of moving from position to position and making the police think they were taking fire from multiple shooters. Watching the thing go down, I never saw anything that showed multiple shooters, that was just the word on the street.

I saw one shooter and he had his act together.

A good rifleman that has the drop on you can make you think you are being hit from everywhere, especially if he is firing and moving aggressively.

It will be interesting to see when he allegedly engaged from where to which targets. That should be simple physics and that would tell us if it could have been one shooter from those locations

(just like a few blocks over, the jfk physics shows us it could not have been one shooter from the book building).

I am not saying that the official version is accurate, just that I have not seen anything yet that rules out a single shooter.

My money is on a 3-letter gubmint agency with a few operatives and one fall guy/patsy. So they blow up the patsy — hey, no embarrassing questions to be asked. The lone nutter always ends up dead. Eh?

  7. dale says:

Multiple as apposed to lone is my first thought. More important, as said, this is a new phase. A phase transition perhaps. And timed with dire macro developments, geopolitical shifts, economic downturn…

It was like a scene from the movie “Heat”. Or from my childhood growing up in Northern Ireland.

Lone shooter is hard for me, personally, to believe, and as usual the early reports of multiple hitters were overturned by the official narrative after a few hours.

That said, it’s hard to know for sure. But the key thing is, now that we have an official version of events, cui bono?

Right, who benefits? Violence hardens the system. As do passive responses to a degree; catch 22. The “terrorists” that, supposedly hate the U.S. Government, use the same game plan; massacre with guns. Which strengthens the hated government’s anti-gun position. There are cheaper, more effective ways to massacre and even get away with – not be there as it goes down. And, as has been posted here before – extensively damaging methods of disruption could include an ax and bolt cutters, i.e. No guns. Conclusion – the “terrorists” work for the system, either inadvertently, or not.
