90 Percent of U.S. Infant Formula May Be Contaminated with Melamine; FDA Abruptly Declares Chemical Safe for Babies

Up to 90 percent of the infant formula sold in the United States may be contaminated with trace amounts of melamine, the toxic chemical linked to kidney damage, according to recent tests. The FDA’s test results, which the agency hid from the public and only released after the Associated Press filed a Freedom of Information Act request, showed that Nestle, Mead Johnson and Enfamil infant formula products were all contaminated with melamine.

The AP is also reporting that Abbott Laboratories conducted its own in-house tests that detected trace levels of melamine in its formula products. Together, these infant formula manufacturers make about 90 percent of the infant formula sold in the United States.

Prior to these test results being made public, the FDA had published a document on its website that explained there was no safe level of melamine contamination in infant formula. Specifically, the FDA stated, “FDA is currently unable to establish any level of melamine and melamine-related compounds in infant formula that does not raise public health concerns.”

Once tests found melamine in U.S.-made formula products, however, the FDA changed its story. As of today, the FDA has now officially declared melamine to be safe in infant formula as long as the contamination level is less than one part per million (1 ppm).

Astonishingly: The FDA has no new science to justify its abrupt decision declaring melamine to be safe!

    FUCKERS

All 3 of my babies were breast fed for at least 18-24 months, we had to supplement with formula because of day care.

GD Incompetent Rectums, this sux, is there no one that you can trust? Not when there is money involved.

    Damn right FUCKERS ALL.
My 91 year old mother lives off a canned food formula that I just realized contained soy. I was worried about soy for myself – don’t eat it drink it or whatever. I read Weston Price re soy a long time ago and warned my sister, who loves a certain sushi bar to lay off that shit. Soy influences estrogen production. But OH its canned as something good to feed to babies because its not dairy, which has also been ruined by the FDA. Ohmygod. What can we rename the FDA? The the Fucking Deadhead Association?
Anyways I think its going to take a long time to exorcise the ghouls out of the FDA closet. They’ve been peddling drugs, food, whatever, that are so caustic to the human species one might think the people that work there are from a species from another genre that is NOT HUMAN.
Kevin posted an article a few days ago about the heavy soy diet being fed to prisoners. Soy is heavy in oxalic acid (it said). Yes well oxalic acid is the major component in rhubarb leaves that make them highly poisonous. Oxalic acid is also the major ingredient in “Barkeeper’s Friend,” a non chlorine sink scrub that gets your pots and metal sinks clean.
I don’t know what melamine does to a human being. It’s too late for me to go there tonight.
But friends, certainly at the end of the BushCo years is not a time to go to sleep on the job of being vigilant. Certainly, if all of a sudden Melanmine is KOOL, I certainly am one to advise you – if you even need a cattle prod of this sort- it is SNOT.
