The College Admissions Scandal Is A Perfect Example Of How Deeply Corrupt America Has Become

Is there anything left in this country that has not been deeply tainted by corruption? By now you have probably heard that dozens of people have been arrested for participating in a multi-million dollar college admissions scam. Enormous amounts of money were paid out in order to ensure that children from very wealthy families were able to get into top schools such as Yale University, Stanford University, the University of Texas and the University of Southern California.

We should certainly be disgusted by these revelations, but we shouldn’t be surprised. Such corruption happens every single day on every single level of society in America. At this point our nation is so far gone that it is shocking when you run into someone that actually still has some integrity.

Much as I hate it, I try to watch the news a few evenings a week (mostly I read it). I can never do a full hour.

Last night this story was covered heavily. The rich and famous were caught cheating and breaking laws in the process. What struck me though was the raid aspect of it, and with guns drawn. These people are self important assholes, but they don’t even rise to the level of white collar crime – who might possibly have an escape plan.

Bribing your kids into college AND gunning down the arresting officers doesn’t juxtaposition well.

It’s a set up for larger insidious agendas. Police state, white privilege, distraction. Rigging LIBOR, back page.

What comes to mind is Naomi Wolf’s End of America. She did a great job with that book. Ten steps for shutting down open societies –

Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy.
Create secret prisons where torture takes place.
Develop a thug caste or paramilitary force not answerable to citizens.
Set up an internal surveillance system.
    Infiltrate and harass citizens’ groups.
Engage in arbitrary detention and release.
    Target key individuals.
    Control the press.
Cast criticism as espionage and dissent as treason.
    Subvert the rule of law.
