See Why Tesla Scares The Legacy Players

EVs are the future, and Tesla is the undisputed market leader, especially in the US, but also globally. If you’re an automaker on the wrong side of this trend, it must be terrifying!

I still think Carbon Dioxide had to be “made” into an emmission/pollutant to justify EVs:

If performance matters, EVs blow IC away. Specifically, luxury sedans. Tesla made people buying new IC Porsches, Audis and BMWs look clueless.

Besides the better performance, a person in that market will also note that EVs are drastically cheaper to power and maintain vs. IC.

My guess is that Rivian is going to do the same vs. Ford and Chevy trucks. Tesla hasn’t announced their pickup yet, but that’s coming soon.

EVs mostly don’t make sense for the economy car or van/minivan markets, though.

Agreed, but EV’s are still very poor in range, “fill-up” time, and infrastructure. I guess those issues will be worked out someday.

I’m not sure what you mean by the range being poor. If you’re talking about a Nissan Leaf, yeah, it’s pretty poor. But Tesla offers long range options on their vehicles for those who need/want that. The Model 3 can go 325 miles on a charge and can add 170 miles of range in about 30 minutes from a Supercharger.

While these numbers sound ok to me, Porsche is banking on people wanting substantially shorter charge times:

However, I’d urge caution. We know, from many years of data, that Tesla’s packs are holding up much better than anticipated. This is due to many factors, one of which is conservative charging rates.

As weird as it sounds, Porsche is the new kid on the block here and we might not know what the higher charge rates are going to do to pack capacity for years.

Wow. Porsche really screwed up by not seeing EVs as a threat.

Maybe I’m just being a crotchety old man about it.
