Not that it is ethical, but from their perspective of wanting to keeping the nation-state quietly functioning, a variant of that program would be very efficient. When unemployment hits 10% and higher, more than half the graduating students will be desperate for restaurant prep work and would do something like this. Raise money by getting rid of expensive military technology jobs, create a lot of exemptions for potential complainers based on parenthood, asthma, etc., and have a lot more slightly productive tasks than he’s describes. This reduces crime, protests.

So this little turd believes Americans should serve their country (and obviously he means militarily), when he himself went and joined the Israeli Army during the Persian Gulf War. Then again, I guess he did serve HIS country…

To those who came up with this idea: This is not me telling you to f*ck off. This is merely a one-fingered wave…

Apparently Emmanuel and Obama are listening to Robert Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers” on their iPods, and creating policy accordingly. “Service guarantees citizenship”. Those who don’t serve for whatever reason won’t qualify for government jobs, benefits etc. Unemployed? Not any more. You are now on your way to whatever outpost of the Empire require boots and blood to guarantee the American way. Once basic training is completed it only takes a few weeks of refresher training to prep someone to be fully utilizable as a grunt. I don’t think there is any real need for an enormous standing reserve.

If you are poor in America, your choices are either military service or prison already, so the whining is going to come from the small technocratic class that replaced the “Middle Class” in the 80’s.
