New Zealand: “Over Time, Requiring People to Scan Would Become Part of Everyday Life”

June 28th, 2021

Mmm hmm.

Via: New Zealand Herald:

The Government is considering mandatory QR scanning in “high-risk” locations such as bars and restaurants, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says.

Cabinet has commissioned advice on the move after daily scans fell from a high of two million every day at the height of the pandemic in New Zealand to a low of just over 400,000.

Over time, requiring people to scan would become part of everyday life, much like showing ID in a bar, Ardern said at today’s post-Cabinet press briefing.

Hi Kevin, Rototillerman from Oregon here. I read stories like this on Cryptogon, and it makes me wonder if you feel, as I do, that I considered almost every risk for my off-grid life (water, soil, climate, energy, community) except for one, one that threatens to overwhelm all the other planning: political risk. I don’t know that I’m going to be able to stay in blue state Oregon for much longer. I refuse to get the experimental gene therapy; I’m not vaccine hesitant, I’m goddamn vaccine defiant. I can see Oregon making life very difficult for the unjabbed.

As usual, kudos to you for being way out in front of the crowd with your videos of John Ionnadis and others pushing back on the narrative of the last 15 months. Anyway, I still remember your seminal post “Waiting for clarity on the brink of Oblivion” from 2007; it seems your situation must mirror mine, but on steroids: the UK and its Commonwealth daughters have been the most eager of the Western world to embrace medical totalitarianism. I’m sure that you must think about your narrowing choices in New Zealand; it would be beyond irony if both of us are considering abandoning 15 years of homesteading work to relocate to Red State Flyover America. Best wishes to you and your family.

Even if I had the financial resources, which I don’t, where would I and my family go at this point???

    In 2011, I wrote:

…I don’t think there’s any way out of “here.”

There are nicer parts of the Death Star than others, but it’s still the Death Star.

And there has been a lot of water under the bridge since then. My guess is that it’s a question of rearranging the deck chairs at this point, but I could be wrong.

Maybe something positive will happen in individual states in the U.S. Put another way, it might be that the last chances for anything positive to happen ANYWHERE are in individual U.S. states.

The U.S. is a big place. Situations vary widely. Large swaths of it are practically empty, which is a great thing.

Over the years, my advice to people on New Zealand went from:

    Probably worth it.

    Might be worth it.

    Probably not worth it.

Running is a waste of resources at this point. Dig in.

    Anyway, good luck to you.
