I lodged a complaint to my union when my employer decided to impose 2FA on us using our very own personal phone number. I always took great care not to give away my phone number to microsoft and those idiots did just that for me.
Result of the complaint => crickets! (from the employer AND the union)

Interesting. You should put the question to them as to why you can’t use some open source Time Based One Time Password method.
