Iceland to be Fast-Tracked Into the EU

January 30th, 2009

Imagine my shock.

Via: Guardian:

Iceland will be put on a fast track to joining the European Union to rescue the small Arctic state from financial collapse amid rising expectations that it will apply for membership within months, senior policy-makers in Brussels and Reykjavik have told the Guardian.

    Wow; they’ve sold themselves.

I guess the choice was Russia or the EU – which isn’t really much of a choice at all.

Now the EU will get that nice Naval Base, and massive fishing reserves – for a bargain price.

Message to Icelandic fishermen: get used to massive Spanish trawlers scouring every last living thing out of your waters, and ramming your ships to get to them.

    Screwed, with a captial “S”.

On a personal note, as an EU citizen, I’ll soon be able to live & work in Iceland. Yay for me.
