Why would so may stores close? Why would some move only a short distance away? Maybe too many Hollywood-affiliated people have moved away, so the customer base is shrinking. Maybe too many visitors and tourists are going somewhere else, so it is collapsing. Maybe someone else wants to acquire those properties cheaply, whether for remodeling/repurposing or demolition. Maybe something big is going to happen in that area that those business owners don’t want to be there for.
It seems like we’ve been watching a long-term, destructive plan, (in Newspeak, ‘transformative’ plan), for California unfolding, with the successive steps being visible, like homeless people arriving and multiplying, (although it looks like they haven’t arrived on Rodeo Drive quite yet), but the ultimate goal still in shadow.
