UK: Spy Plane Searches for Energy Wasters

May 10th, 2007

People are cracking up.

Via: Muswell Hill Journal:

EVERY home in the borough has been photographed from a “spy plane” – to help Haringey Council wage a war against householders wasting energy.

The council has compiled a “heat map” which can identify how much energy is escaping from each property.

The colour coded map was created from footage taken by a plane fitted with a military thermal imaging camera.

And there’s me thinking they were on the lookout for Vietnamese cannabis farms

No, they were looking for terrorism.

This technology has been used for some time in California to spot indoor marijuana cultivation in the McMansions. The growers use soundproofed indoor diesel generators, so they do not show up as high electricity users on their PG&E bills.

They were most likely looking for home MJ growers. I’ve seen that in a Canadian documentary- they use IR cameras from a plane because MJ grows best in a hot place. Also catch them by their energy bills…

Hehe .. me too … no way this was JUST about saving energy, they wanted to catch people growing weed in their loft space … check out the map, you can see at least one grow room on there 😉
