About 30% of Brevard County residents are non-white. Back in 1960, when it was 11%, nearly all of them born in the area, and Civil Rights and Affirmative Action did not yet exist, there were no street battles of civilians vs. police. If anyone aimed any type of weapon at a policeman, of course he could be shot if the policeman thought it necessary. Race didn’t entitle some people to commit crimes that others could be still shot for, nor was everybody entitled to commit crimes if they were during a protest or a riot.
Civilizations don’t progress in a straight upward incline. Sometimes people forget the lessons of the past and have to re-learn them the hard way, especially people from elsewhere who never lived in as civilized a place as they find themselves in today.
