In Ashcroft’s Darkened Hospital Room…

One senator called it some of the most dramatic testimony he’s heard in 25 years as a legislator.
Comey was the only witness at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, where for the first time, he publicly told the story of a dramatic confrontation at a hospital bedside between some of the most powerful men in Washington.
“I thought I had just witnessed an effort to take advantage of a very sick man, who did not have the powers of the attorney general because they had been transferred to me,” Comey testified.
The sick man was John Ashcroft, who was in the hospital with acute pancreatitis. Hours before his hospitalization, Ashcroft and Comey had decided not to reauthorize the president’s secret, controversial, domestic-surveillance program.
The night after the Justice Department told the White House, Comey received a phone call. The president’s chief of staff, Andy Card, and then-White House counsel Alberto Gonzales were on their way to Ashcroft’s hospital room.
“I told my security detail that I needed to get to George Washington Hospital immediately,” Comey testified. “They turned on the emergency equipment and drove very quickly to the hospital. I got out of the car and literally ran up the stairs.”
The room was dark. Mrs. Ashcroft was standing by the bed. Comey said that Ashcroft, in his sixth day in intensive care, was not in good shape. He was unfocused, disoriented.
“And it was only a matter of minutes that the door opened and in walked Mr. Gonzales, carrying an envelope, and Mr. Card,” Comey said. “They came over and stood by the bed, greeted the attorney general very briefly, and then Mr. Gonzales began to discuss why they were there — to seek his approval for a matter.”
Then, Ashcroft did something that stunned Comey. He lifted his head off the pillow and explained in strong, detailed terms why he would not sign the paper.
“And as he laid back down, he said, ‘But that doesn’t matter because I’m not the attorney general. There is the attorney general.’ And he pointed to me,” Comey testified. “I was just to his left. The two men did not acknowledge me. They turned and walked from the room.”

Unlike the way portrayed in the mangled media account, it is clear from his testimony that he (AG Comey) believed it was dear leader Bush who sent the henchmen in the night to do the dirty deed . . . as usual the media (via the NYTs etc.) tried to portray it otherwise, as Bush “stepping in” to resolve the dispute (i.e. instead of showing the truth – – yet further attempts on his fascist behalf to subvert the Constitution). Amazing how the MSM (controlled fascist media) does whatever it can to make Bush look better than he deserves . . . I will give them that it’s a difficult job . . . . (Sidenote: interesting article, on a new book, at Earthfiles.com as to the National Enquirer being set up by a CIA psychological warfare expert named Pope . . . the idea being that legitimate areas of citizen concern such as UFOs (recognized by the military as a real phenomena – whatever they may be . . . ) would be mixed with sensational unbelievable material thus causing the subject to slowly fall into disrepute as a legitimate subject of public interest and study and, slowly, public ridicule and disbelief . . . another fine psychological warfare “program” that achieved the desired success (does your average “informed” citizen do anything other than yuk it up as to the UFO phenomena? Little green men don’t ya know . . . who knows how many more “operations” our “intelligence” agencies are running on us, the citizens the “serve” – – no doubt 911 qualifies??? – – Following up JFK, RFK, MLK, John Lennon et al . . . .
It’s clear to me, at least, that Arlen Specter’s words about “the pResident doing the right thing” are really an attempt to spin the story away from the reality that the White House (be it Cheney or Bush) were dead set on a wide-ranging, illegal spying program. When I heard the actual audio on the radio there was no question about what was really going on. It’s like when the mob comes to talk to you; they don’t make small talk with the underlings, i.e. Comey. I find it interesting that Ashcroft dropped out of public life like a stone shortly after this incident, and I don’t think that that is a coincidence, much as I hate to give any credit to Ashcroft.

Hmph. To read the names of Bush, Specter, and Ashcroft in the time it took me to read the comments to this post makes me ready to pray to the porcelain Buddha. Methinks Ashcroft is lying low because he has much blood on his hands and is most likely doing something strange to himself hoping that the comeuppance that awaits him somewhere, sometime will be lessened with his self flagellation. Sheesh this guy couldn’t stand the sight of a female tit on statues or paintings and actually had cloth draped over priceless art to squelch his well whatever. I wonder if he dreams about how Mel Carnahan died in that nifty pricelessly timed plane crash? And KL, Specter is a Janus with many pleasing quotations in front of the microphone but speaks with a tongue of multiple forks that says one thing in a press conference so to make himself look good but in action betrays himself as a ghoul from the crypt of the living dead that all women with breast milk should be shielded from lest their babes starve. Specter is the Prime pontificator re the single bullet theory re the JFK assassination and inserted that timely quote into the Patriot Act where States Attorney General’s don’t need Senate confirmation and to top that off is the prime enabler of Bush appointees to the Supreme Court. Here in Pennsylvania where I live those weird electonic gizzmos miraculousy gave the S word the primary election. But the grasslands and wildflowers shrivel and die and the Amish roll down their blinds to shield themselves from the EVIL radiation that spews forth when his black limousine rolls by because the natural spirits in this part of the USA know that Specter has always done his best to be an enabler for the Illuminati/Bush grand scheme for a Kingdom come the will be done of AIPAC and Corporations. For the words “the President wanting to do the right thing” coming out of Specter’s mouth is just another finger down my throat. Yep, I think I am going to hurl.
