Really found bracing the interviewee’s example at minute 51 of an electrical engineer contractor who had recently struggled to get new contracts, looked into AI closely, and saw that it could do in hours what he would normally bid out at 6 months. He’s now taking training in HVAC.

I ran into a friend yesterday, from a church I used to attend. Her son graduated last year with good grades and a degree in computer science from a four year university (Western Washington University in Bellingham). He’s applied for 1200 jobs since last June… not one follow-up interview. AI has killed entry level software jobs. He’s thinking of going back to school for a trade job, like plumbing or HVAC or electrician. Meanwhile he works at a restaurant. Apparently a CompSci degree is now worth about the same as an English degree.

    Wow! That is wild.

I don’t know how real this is, but if your friend’s son has any interest in becoming a mechanic:

Ford CEO Jim Farley laments he can’t fill 5,000 mechanic jobs paying $120K per year: ‘We are in trouble in our country’
