Green Berets: Military Brass Urge American Energy Revolution

May 20th, 2009

Mmm hmm. Clean, green death rays.

Via: Wall Street Journal:

Retired military officers are urging the U.S. to get serious about changing the country’s approach to energy use.

In a new report from Alexandria, Va.-based Center for Naval Analyses, a bevy of high-ranking former Army and Navy officials stress that the country’s reliance on oil poses a threat to national security and undermines the country’s ability to wage war. That’s because the hegemony of oil empowers plenty of dodgy nations, and because it imposes huge (and expensive) logistics strains on the U.S. military, as made clear in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The report calls for the Pentagon to lead a shift away from oil and toward renewable sources of energy—not so much to save the planet as to make it easier to defend.

Now’s a fine time to decide this change in strategy. My gawd. This is puke on the sidewalk as far as I’m concerned. Makes me wonder what role these geeks had in 11-Sept-01. The Darth’s plan must have sounded good to them back then.
    Aholes.
Went to the WTC this past weekend. Actually came out of the subway first into St. Paul’s Church, a place where the rescuers and others found respite after “the attacks.”
My sister had to haul me out of there because I was getting red around the gills with anger. The pictures of people, the stories of death, the “terrorist attack” syndrome of thinking was making me so MAD.
That firefighters and whoever else died because of this well, it makes me sick to my soul.
Theres this pit of death and destruction now humming with building activity.
SOON COOMING! WTCI, WTCII, WTCIII, 5,6,7, and 8! PLUS WE GET A NATIONAL PETTING ZOO OF MOURNING.
And ya know girlfriends and boyfriends, if these dicks and company had got on the bandwagon against oil a lot sooner I think none of this would have happened. But they didn’t and that’s what makes me so mad I could pop a pimple with my brain just thinking about it.
National Security, my behind! How about HUMAN SECURITY?????? Protection from the likes of you going along with every Darth that comes along singing his oil song.
TOO LATE YOU NIMRODS. WAY TOO EFFING LATE.
I’m so over National Security. When you’ve lost the trust of the people you are purportedly defending, who cares what you think is the “way to go?”
It’s too effing late for the military to “get a brain.” Hopefully, its not to late for the rest of us to think about our own personal security.
Food, water, shelter, health, and a personal energy supply. What more could you ask for?
Maybe Leonard Cohen in concert. Hah!

Another interesting thing about my visit to New York: the thousands of people (mostly from other countries as far as I could tell) visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
I don’t know how many people the ferries hold that take people out to visit Liberty or Ellis, but I think at least 850.
I was embarrassed to think that of that crowd on the top deck, myself and my sister were the only ones who didn’t have a second language. Hundreds of people waiting in line to get “off of Ellis Island.”
I dunno how to say it. My visit to New York somehow restored my faith in humankind.
That’s there’s something greater going on in the world than the economy, wars, and Darth. That total strangers look in awe at the Statue of Liberty, and ask you to take their picture on their sleek cameras.
Yoi. I guess my faith in humankind has been renewed. Nuthin’ wrong with that.
