Hundreds of Central Florida motorists were ticketed Monday by a costumed Uncle Sam officer in a weeklong operation targeting speeding holiday drivers.

About 20 sheriff’s deputies on motorcycles pulled over speeding motorists after they were detected by Uncle Sam’s laser speed-detection gun.

During the four-hour traffic operation, 275 citations were issued, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Those jackasses are only a couple of counties away from where I am. This is the third or forth year in a row they have been doing this.

I just roll my eyes and shrug my shoulders. At least this stunt isn’t especially harmful. Just proof that we live in a loony bin.

PS: By the way at Christmas they dress up as Santa and do the same thing.

This is illegal in California. Those ticketed in Florida might want to check out the local codes. Below is the California code.

Vehicle and Uniform Used by Officers
40800. Every traffic officer on duty for the exclusive or main purpose of enforcing the provisions of Division 10 or 11 of this code shall wear a full distinctive uniform, and if the officer while so on duty uses a motor vehicle, it must be painted a distinctive color specified by the commissioner.

This section does not apply to an officer assigned exclusively to the duty of investigating and securing evidence in reference to any theft of a vehicle or failure of a person to stop in the event of an accident or violation of Section 23109 or in reference to any felony charge, or to any officer engaged in serving any warrant when the officer is not engaged in patrolling the highways for the purpose of enforcing the traffic laws.
    Amended Ch. 202, Stats. 1961. Effective September 15, 1961.

That’s some seriously brave police work, especially near a holiday when everyone is stocking up on fireworks and pranksters abound.

What kind of psychotic policing is this?

@ Robert S Where are you located, I’m in Volusia County and always willing to correspond with like minded people.

@ Mt Shasta, In the police state that we call Florida, it’s generally the local police who are into harassing the citizenry, and I don’t think they bother to read the laws. I’ve never had a bad experience with our sheriff’s department or state police and they both seem highly professional to me.

One thing the citizens of Florida have going for us is extremely relaxed gun laws, and the right to defend life and property with deadly force if necessary.

Looks like Uncle Sam and Captain America could team up to form a real crime fighting duo:

  6. Revenue agents. It’s doubtful Americans will wake up to this nonsense, they’re still willing to support this kind of idiocy.

  7. fallout11 says:

Random, arbitrary and capricious taxation. A recent Georgia DOT poll found that 86% of respondents admitted to speeding regularly (actual numbers are probably higher).
Why not just mail a bill to 86% of the population and be done with the matter?
