It’s not just the troops that are surging. War costs are up for American operations in Iraq and Afghanistan* — way up, more than a third higher than last year. In the first half of this fiscal year, the Defense Department’s “average monthly obligations for contracts and pay is running about $12 billion per month, well above the $8.7 billion in FY2006,” says a new report, obtained by DANGER ROOM, from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service.

Yes, Iraq war costs have soared beyond belief as our military personnel have to purchase body armor with their own money. Severely injured soldiers and Marines are put into often vermin-infested and sub-standard hospital facilities. But not to worry: All is well at the Country Clubs frequented by CEO’s of Halliburton, Blackwater, and the myriad other defense contractors becoming obscenely richer while our troops are dying and being maimed for the senseless misadventure. But no, Mr. CEO, it really isn’t senseless, is it? It makes all the sense in the world. These valiant men and women ARE dying and being severely injured for something. Right? Right. Your greed. By the way, when you’re at the Gala Dinner at the Country Club Saturday night, say hello to Scooter Libby for us. We understand he’s going to be able to play with Sunday’s foursome after all. God bless America and His chosen People: Bush and Company.
i just had a reverse ghandi moment on this whole fiasco after reading Larry’s post…
‘first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you. then you win’.
right now people in general are on the laugh/fight edge….
