CIA Obtains False IDs From Washington Dept. Of Licensing
April 17th, 2013Via: Oregon Public Broadcasting:
In recent years, the state of Washington has issued nearly 300 fictitious driver licenses to the CIA. That’s according to public records initially disclosed, but now withheld, by state officials. The state’s cooperation with the nation’s premier spy agency has been a secret for years — unknown to lawmakers and even the governor.
Inside Washington’s Department of Licensing is a special office called the License Integrity Unit. This is where police officers who are going undercover can come to get a fake identity. It’s a valid Washington driver license, but with a fictitious name, birthdate and address. It’s known as the confidential driver license program. It’s operated for decades, but without legislative approval.
“It’s not really been a formal program,” says Agency spokesman Brad Benfield. “But the practice of issuing law enforcement officers these types of licenses appears to go back to the 80s.”
This year the Department of Licensing is asked the legislature to give it formal permission to continue the program. The agency introduced legislation that’s moving through the process. Last month, reporter Josh Farley of The Kitsap Sun and I asked for a list of the agencies that have received these fictitious driver licenses.
Benfield showed us the list, but he said he couldn’t give it to us just yet.
Immediately, one agency jumped off the page. The CIA. I asked Benfield if I was seeing it right.
“That is CIA,” he replied.
Not only that, the CIA had obtained by far the greatest number of confidential driver licenses of any agency – local, state or federal: 288 since 2007.

Attacks on Bay Area Data and Electricity Transmission Infrastructure
April 17th, 2013Via: CBS:
In apparent acts of “sabotage” in the South Bay early Tuesday, someone cut fiber optic cables, knocking out some 911 service, and then fired a rifle at a PG&E substation, Santa Clara County’s sheriff said.
The vandal’s objective appears to have been “shutting down the system,” Sheriff Laurie Smith said at a news conference at the substation Tuesday afternoon.
“We don’t have a suspect,” she said. “It seems like the same perpetrator or perpetrators to me.”
Both incidents happened early Tuesday morning in the area of Metcalf Road and Monterey Highway, just southeast of San Jose city limits.
The underground cables, protected by manhole covers, were cut shortly before 1:30 a.m. in two locations along Monterey Highway, Smith said.
Some of the cables, comprised of bundled fiber optic cords, were cut near Monterey Highway and Coyote Ranch Road, AT&T spokesman George Ross said.
He said the cables there are AT&T lines but that some other service providers piggyback off of them.
A number of South Bay customers lost landline and cellphone service, and the damage also initially knocked out some 911 call systems in the area.

Envelope Tests Positive for Ricin at Washington Mail Facility
April 17th, 2013Update: Secret Service: Ricin-Laced Letter to Obama Has Been Found
Via: CNN:
An envelope that tested positive for the deadly poison ricin was intercepted Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Capitol’s off-site mail facility in Washington, congressional and law enforcement sources tell CNN.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he was told the letter was addressed to the office of Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi. A laboratory in Maryland confirmed the presence of ricin after an initial field tests indicated the poison was present, Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Terrance Gainer said.
The letter had a Memphis, Tennessee, postmark and no return address, Gainer wrote in an e-mail to senators and aides.
Sen. Claire McCaskill told reporters after a briefing for lawmakers that a suspect has already been identified in the incident, but a knowledgeable source said no one was in custody Tuesday night.
FDA Let Drugs Approved on Fraudulent Research Stay on the Market
April 16th, 2013Via: ProPublica:
On the morning of May 3, 2010, three agents of the Food and Drug Administration descended upon the Houston office of Cetero Research, a firm that conducted research for drug companies worldwide.
Lead agent Patrick Stone, now retired from the FDA, had visited the Houston lab many times over the previous decade for routine inspections. This time was different. His team was there to investigate a former employee’s allegation that the company had tampered with records and manipulated test data.
When Stone explained the gravity of the inquiry to Chinna Pamidi, the testing facility’s president, the Cetero executive made a brief phone call. Moments later, employees rolled in eight flatbed carts, each double-stacked with file boxes. The documents represented five years of data from some 1,400 drug trials.
Pamidi bluntly acknowledged that much of the lab’s work was fraudulent, Stone said. “You got us,” Stone recalled him saying.
Based partly on records in the file boxes, the FDA eventually concluded that the lab’s violations were so “egregious” and pervasive that studies conducted there between April 2005 and August 2009 might be worthless.
…
Stone said he expected the FDA to move swiftly to compel new testing and to publicly warn patients and doctors.
Instead, the agency decided to handle the matter quietly, evaluating the medicines with virtually no public disclosure of what it had discovered. It pulled none of the drugs from the market, even temporarily, letting consumers take the ibuprofen and other medicines it no longer knew for sure were safe and effective. To this day, some drugs remain on the market despite the FDA having no additional scientific evidence to back up the safety and efficacy of these drugs.
Hundreds Feared Dead in Iran Earthquake
April 16th, 2013Via: Irish Times:
An Iranian government official said today he expected hundreds of deaths from a major earthquake that struck Iran near the border with Pakistan.
“It was the biggest earthquake in Iran in 40 years and we are expecting hundreds of dead,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The US Geological Survey said the lightly-populated region was hit by a 7.8 force tremor. The quake was felt as far away as New Delhi and Gulf cities of Dubai and Bahrain. It was at a depth of nine miles.
Across the Gulf, high-rise buildings swayed and officials ordered evacuations.
The Sad Kevin Harris Situation
April 16th, 2013People from Orange County, California are searching Google for information on Kevin Harris and they’re finding my ancient post on him from 2004. I used to live a couple of dozen miles from Harris. I found one of his booklets on my doorstep back then and, upon reading it, concluded that he was very obviously mentally ill. He apparently distributed thousands of the booklets around Southern California over the years. It was just random chance that he happened to drop one on my doorstep. I never met the man, or had any contact with him.
When I wrote that old post, I’d hoped that a relative might come across it and try get him some help.
Maybe they tried, but Harris has just met with a bad end. Thankfully, nobody else was killed or injured.
I’m mainly posting this to let passers-by know that yes, I’m aware of what happened to Kevin Harris. You guys don’t need to email me any more links.
Note: I’m including this in Assassination and Mind Control, not because I have any reason to believe that Harris was assassinated or under mind control, but because these topics are discussed in his booklet.
Via: Los Angeles Times:
A man who apparently blew himself up with explosives in his Costa Mesa home was known to record video of his neighbors from his property, prompting calls to police from residents, authorities said Monday.
Neighbors described Kevin Harris, 52, as odd but harmless with a history of mental illness. They made a point to walk at a brisk pace past his house, which was wrapped in foil, neighbors told The Times. Cryptic notes would appear, taped to a tree in the front yard.
A neighbor showed The Times one such note taped to the tree Saturday morning. It read: “For your information: My introspection and my adversaries behavior have convinced me that electronic mind reading is now reality.”
The note is signed by Harris and points people to a rambling, 17,000-word essay titled “The Pricker.”
Boston Marathon Bombing

Mother Of Boston Bombing Suspects Suggests FBI Has Been Watching Her Son For Five Years
Via: Business Insider:
Zubeidat K. Tsarnaeva, the mother of Boston bombing suspects Dzhokar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, suggested Friday that the FBI had been surveilling her older son for several years prior to Monday’s attack.
In an interview with Russia Today Friday, Tsarnaeva said that Tamerlan Tsarnaev got involved in “religious politics” five years ago, and that the FBI had contacted her about her son’s activities.
“He was controlled by the FBI for five years,” she said.”They knew what my son was doing, they knew what sites on the Internet he was going [to], they used to come…and talk to me…they were telling me that he was a serious leader and they were afraid of him.”
A spokesperson for the FBI told Business Insider Friday that the agency would be putting out a statement “shortly” regarding its previous contact with either of the Tsarnaev suspects. The spokesperson would not confirm or deny that the agency had had any previous contact.
Tsarnaeva also insisted that her sons were innocent, and had been “set up.”
Tamerlan, 26, died Thursday night in a shootout with Boston Police. A manhunt is still underway for Tsarnaeva’s younger son, Dzhoker, 19.

‘Public Safety Exception’: Miranda Rights Won’t Be Read For Boston Bombing Suspect
Via: Huffington Post:
A Justice Department official says the Boston Marathon bombing suspect will not be read his Miranda rights because the government is invoking a public safety exception.
That official and a second person briefed on the investigation says 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will be questioned by a special interrogation team for high-value suspects. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to disclose the information publicly.
The public safety exception permits law enforcement officials to engage in a limited and focused unwarned interrogation of a suspect and allows the government to introduce the statement as evidence in court. The public safety exception is triggered when police officers have an objectively reasonable need to protect the police or the public from immediate danger.

The Surreal Sight of SWAT Teams in Banal Suburbs of Boston
Via: Atlantic Wire:
One of the strangest things about watching heavily-armed tactical teams sweep through Watertown, Massachusetts in search of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the fugitive Boston marathon bomber, was seeing all this war pouring through quaint suburban streets. Helicopters landed on the roof of the mall. Men with M4s perched on backyard huts. Cheery lawn ornaments decorated the yards while police pointed guns at the windows next door. Some of the most surreal pictures were taken by residents from their upstairs windows as law enforcement patrolled their streets and camouflaged military vehicles parked next to trashcans on the sidewalk. Here are some of the most arresting photos from Watertown.

Saudis?
Via: The Blaze:
A senior law enforcement official with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told TheBlaze Thursday that reports claiming the department was deporting Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi under section 212 3B (“security and related grounds”) and had opened an “event” (or file) on the Saudi Arabian national following the Boston attacks is “categorically false.”
The official also told TheBlaze that Alharbi was never in custody nor ever considered for deportation by ICE, but that the department does have a different Saudi national in custody being held on grounds unrelated to the Boston bombings.
Reports have indicated that both Alharbi and another Saudi student were wounded in Monday’s blasts. While in the hospital for treatment following the attack, Alharbi was considered a “person of interest” and was guarded by law enforcement officials. He is now, according to law enforcement officials, no longer considered a person of interest.
The senior ICE official confirmed to TheBlaze that the department does currently have a different Saudi Arabian national in custody, but that that person is in “no way affiliated” with the Boston attacks, nor is the detainee one of the two Saudi nationals who were wounded on Monday.
The ICE official add that the man currently in ICE’s custody is from the Boston area and is being detained on visa violation issues only.
“The person we have in custody is not Alharabi, is not being deported, and is not connected at all to the Boston attack,” the senior law enforcement official told TheBlaze.

WARNING: Laws being written to screw you.I work on a security commission and I’ve just received word to start campaigning on a campaign we’ve been working on for the last two months and now it all makes sense.
I’ll keep it as short can I can.
They’re going to pin this event on a male late teens to early 20s and say he did it because he’s unstable. They are going to find firearms and a NRA book in his home. They are going to say he used reloading powder for the explosion and that reloading powder shouldn’t be for sale to the public. They are then going to say that because the powder in ammunition can be used for explosions that the number of rounds you can buy should be limited and taxed to help pay for these events.
I can’t do anything or I’ll lose my job and possibly face criminals charges. Please don’t let them get away with it. They won’t find the suspect till later this week and the raid is issued to occur on Friday. This was a staged event. The people hurt are real but the event was planned. Don’t let them hurt our rights.
I’m at work so I used a copy of a picture from another thread. Also please don’t mention me. It will seriously hurt me.
In the wake of the deadly bombing attacks in Boston, U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today announced that he will reintroduce legislation he has proposed in a prior Congress to require that sales of explosive powder be subject to a background check. He will also file the legislation as an amendment to the gun violence prevention bill currently on the Senate floor.
Current law allows an individual to purchase as much as 50 pounds of explosive “black powder” without a background check, and also permits an individual to purchase unlimited amounts of dangerous “smokeless powder” and “black powder substitute” without a background check. Sen. Lautenberg’s proposal would change that and require a background check for any purchase of these explosive powders. These powders can be used as the explosive material in assembling pipe bombs, used in the Columbine school shooting, and pressure cooker bombs, which may have been used in the recent Boston attack.

Watertown: Police Engaged In Prolonged Gunbattle with Multiple Suspects
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Captured
Via: CBS:
A flurry of applause at the scene of a standoff between police and Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev signaled his capture Friday night.
After a nearly two-hour standoff in a Watertown neighborhood, Tsarnaev was taken from the scene by ambulance to a local hospital.
The standoff began just before 7 p.m., minutes after Massachusetts State Police announced that they had completed their door-to-door search in Watertown without locating Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
WBZ-TV’s Jim Armstrong was in the area of Franklin Street when he heard what he described as 15-20 seconds of rapid gunfire. He was forced to take cover, and was quickly moved back to safety by police.
Boston Mayor Tom Menino confirmed to WBZ-TV that police had surrounded the bombing suspect inside a boat in the backyard of a home on Franklin Street. Sources say that a resident called police to report finding blood by the boat.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030 reported that authorities were able to confirm there was a person inside by using a thermal camera from a helicopter.

Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev
Via: USA Today:
The surviving Boston bomb suspect has been identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., a federal law enforcement official told USA TODAY.
Police have identified Tsarnaev’s older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, as the other bombing suspect, killed during the manhunt at MIT.
Both suspects have been in the U.S. for at least a year, living as legal U.S. residents in Cambridge, said the official, who declined to be identified because he is not authorized to comment publicly.
The suspects were identified to The Associated Press as coming from the Russian region near Chechnya, which has been plagued by an Islamic insurgency stemming from separatist wars.

Latest Summary of Incident
Via: The Lookout:
A late-night police chase and shootout has ended with one Boston Marathon bombing suspect dead and another on the run, police said early Friday morning. One police officer was killed and another was seriously wounded during the violent spree.
At sunrise, Gov. Deval Patrick ordered a shutdown of all public transit and residents on the edges of Boston to stay indoors as a massive manhunt for the second suspect was underway.
“This is situation is grave and we are trying to protect the public safety,” said Massachusetts State Police Col. Timothy Alben.
Federal agents swarmed neighboring Watertown after local police were involved in a car chase and shootout with the men identified Thursday by the FBI as Suspect 1 and Suspect 2. During the pursuit, officers could be heard on police radio traffic describing the men as having handguns, grenades and other explosives.
The mayhem began at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday when police said the bombing suspects robbed a 7-Eleven store in Cambridge. Minutes later, police said, the men shot and killed an MIT campus officer responding to the robbery call. The terror suspects then fled in a stolen Mercedes-Benz, but were quickly spotted in Watertown where they exchanged dozens of rounds of gunfire with patrol officers.
Suspect 1 was shot by police and brought to Beth Israel Medical Center. He arrived at the hospital under cardiac arrest with multiple gunshot wounds and blast-like injuries to his chest. The second suspect fled on foot, leading to a tense manhunt that is still underway at this hour.
“We believe this to be a terrorist,” said Boston police Commissioner Ed Davis. “We believe this to be a man who has come here to kill people. We need to get him into custody.”
A transit officer was seriously wounded during the exchange of gunfire, officials said.
The FBI has yet to publicly confirm a connection between the events in Watertown and the twin explosions that killed 3 people and injured 170 others at the Boston Marathon on Monday. But according to Boston police, the suspect who remained at large was the “one in the white hat” seen in the photos released by the bureau on Thursday.
In a radio alert sent issued to fellow officers, the suspect was described as a “white male with dark complexion … with thick curly hair wearing a charcoal gray hooded sweatshirt … possibly with an assault rifle and explosives.” Police in Watertown, Newton, Brighton and Cambridge were put on high alert.

NBC indicates that the National Guard was also involved:
Police, federal agents and even National Guardsmen descended on a Boston suburb where there were reports of violence, gunshots and two loud booms Thursday night into early Friday morning — all following the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer.
The large law-enforcement presence gathered in Watertown, Mass., just a few miles from the shooting on MIT’s Cambridge campus, where two men had reportedly shot at police officers.
The Watertown scene was marked by reports of rapid gunfire and explosions.
Via: New York Times:
Two young men, armed with guns and explosives in what appeared to be backpacks, engaged in a violent standoff with dozens of police on a street in Watertown, Mass., Thursday night, police and residents said.
At around 1 a.m., two residents said they heard what sounded like firecrackers began going off in Laurel Street. When they looked out of their windows, they saw two young men taking cover behind a black Mercedes sports utility vehicle, in a shootout with dozens of police about 70 yards away. A police spokesman said there was a strong possibility that the incident was linked to the fatal shooting of a campus police officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The chaos that descended on the residential streets came as the community was still reeling from Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon that killed three and wounded more than 170.
Andrew Kitzenberg, 29, said he looked out of this third floor window to see two young men of slight build in jackets engaged in “constant gunfire” with police officers. A police SUV “drove towards the shooters,” he said, and was shot at until it was severely damaged. It rolled out of control, Mr. Kitzenberg said, and crashed into two cars in his driveway.
The two shooters, he said, had a large and unwieldy bomb. “They lit it, still in the middle of the gunfire, and threw it. But it went 20 yards at most.” It exploded, he said, and one of the two men ran towards the gathered police officers. He was tackled, but it was not clear if he was shot, Mr. Kitzenberg said.
The explosions, said Loretta Kehayias, 65, another resident, “lit up the whole house. I screamed. I’ve never seen anything like this, never, never, never.”
Meanwhile, the other young man, said Mr. Kitzenberg, got back into the SUV, turned it toward officers and “put the pedal to the metal.” The car “went right through the cops, broke right through and continued west.”
The two men left “a few backpacks right by the car, and there is a bomb robot out there now.” Police had told residents to stay away from their windows, he said.
A police spokesman, Dave Procopio, told reporters that one suspects was being taken to an area hospital and another is “on the loose.” Explosives were involved, he confirmed, and bomb disposal units were active. When asked about links to Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon, he said, “We’re investigating that, and the F.B.I. is investigating that.”

Fox Pulls ‘Family Guy’ Episode Referring to Deaths at Boston Marathon; No Plans to Re-Air
almaverdad2 sent this in.
Via: Washington Post:
In the episode, protagonist Peter Griffin is asked by sports announcer Bob Costas about his performance at the marathon. A flashback shows Peter mowing down runners with his car.
“I’ll tell ya, Bob, I just got in my car and drove it,” Griffin says. “And when there was a guy in my way, I killed him.”
Later, Peter befriends a terrorist who, unbeknownst to him, is plotting to blow up a bridge. When Peter dials a cellphone the friend has given him, explosions and screams are heard. On some websites, an edited clip has been circulating that fuses the two scenes, making it seem — incorrectly — as if the explosion was at the marathon. Some commenters have implied that the show “predicted” the bombings.

Woman Told Some Runners That They Would Die If They Participated In Marathon
Thanks to RP for sending this in.
Via: The Chief:
Mike Heiliger, 59, said a woman holding several bags was telling runners who were picking up their pre-race packages in downtown Boston on Saturday (April 13) that they were going to die if they participated in the event.
“I was downtown on Saturday and you know, you see these people on the street and think it’s just some nutbar,” he told The Chief from his Boston hotel on Monday. “It was a little creepy because you can identify who the runners are and I heard her say to this runner two feet away from me that, ‘If you run tomorrow you’re going to die.’”
At the time, Heiliger said he thought about telling the woman that the race was Monday, but decided not to correct her.

UM Coach: Bomb Sniffing Dogs, Spotters on Roofs Before Explosions: “They kept making announcements to the participants do not worry, it’s just a training exercise”
Same witness, different source:
“At the starting line this morning, they had bomb sniffing dogs and the bomb squad out there,” he said. “They kept announcing to runners not to be alarmed, that they were running a training exercise.”
Via: Local15 NBC:
University of Mobile’s Cross Country Coach, who was near the finish line of the Boston Marathon when a series of explosions went off, said he thought it was odd there were bomb sniffing dogs at the start and finish lines.
?
“They kept making announcements to the participants do not worry, it’s just a training exercise,” Coach Ali Stevenson told Local 15.
Stevenson said he saw law enforcement spotters on the roofs at the start of the race. He’s been in plenty of marathons in Chicago, D.C., Chicago, London and other major metropolitan areas but has never seen that level of security before.
?
“Evidently, I don’t believe they were just having a training exercise,” Stevenson said. “I think they must have had some sort of threat or suspicion called in.”
CNN reports a state government official said there were no credible threats before the race.

National Guard Deployed
Via: Boston Herald:
Bay State residents can expect the massive security surge prompted by the marathon bombing to continue throughout the week, with Copley Square under lockdown, the Common converted into a National Guard staging area and a flood of law enforcement officials patrolling Boston — even as city officials urged residents to return to work as normal.
“The city of Boston will be open, but it will not be business as usual,” said Gov. Deval Patrick, later adding that life in the city is “not going to be easy, simple or regular.”
Patrick said the National Guard has secured a 15-block crime scene and is limiting access in the area, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has taken over the probe into who planted the explosives.
“There will be a heightened law enforcement presence. People should expect delays,” he said.
Dot Joyce, a spokeswoman for Mayor Thomas M. Menino, urged those who work in the city to continue as normal only one day after the devastating blast that killed three and injured at least 100.
But Patrick warned that the Copley Street station on the Green Line will be closed today and that commuters should expect random bag checks. There will be MBTA delays.
“We just ask everyone to be patient,” he said, adding that the area around Copley “is pretty much going to be locked down until the investigation is complete.”

Contractors’ Next Payday: Commando Logistics for Africa Shadow Wars
April 15th, 2013Via: Wired:
Here’s how serious the U.S. is about its African war on terror. The Pentagon is preparing to spend millions to create a privatized flying taxi service to fly its commandos everywhere from Libya to Congo.
That’s according to details in a recent solicitation notice for a Defense Department contract worth up to $50 million, expected to be handed over to a private contracting firm in August. Among the two main tasks contractors will be expected to carry out: medical evacuations during “high risk activities” — capable of being launched within a three-hour notice — as well as transporting equipment and commandos from Joint Special Operations Task Force-Trans Sahara (or JSOTF-TS) within the borders of potentially 20 African nations. When you want to keep a U.S. military footprint small, you have to contract out a lot of logistics services.
Based at a secretive military airfield in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, the contractors will be tasked with missions across central and northern Africa, with the most likely destinations being Chad, Libya, Mali, Mauritania and other countries including Algeria, Cameroon and Nigeria. Less likely, but within the contractor’s “primary operating areas,” are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Sudan and Uganda — all suspected to be likely hiding spots for warlord Joseph Kony.
