11,000 North Korean Troops In Russia Preparing to Fight in Ukraine [???]
October 22nd, 2024Via: The War Zone:
There are now nearly 11,000 North Korean infantry troops training in eastern Russia to fight in Ukraine, the head of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Directorate (GUR) told The War Zone Thursday afternoon.
“They will be ready [to fight in Ukraine] on Nov. 1,” Lt. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov told TWZ.
The North Korean troops will be using Russian equipment and ammunition, said Budanov. The first cadre of 2,600 soldiers will go to Kursk, where Ukraine has established a heavily fought-over foothold (more on that later). It is unclear where the remaining North Korean troops will go, he added.
Communications Satellite Intelsat 33e Breaks Up In Geostationary Orbit
October 22nd, 2024Via: SpaceNews:
The Intelsat 33e satellite has broken up in geostationary orbit (GEO) and lost power, ceasing communications services for customers across Europe, Africa and parts of Asia Pacific.
…
In an Oct. 21 update, Intelsat declared the satellite a total loss. The company said it is working with government agencies to analyze data and observations, and has set up a Failure Review Board to investigate the anomaly’s cause.
…
The U.S. Space Force reported Oct. 19 that it was tracking around 20 pieces of debris associated with the spacecraft.
“U.S. Space Forces-Space (S4S) has confirmed the breakup of Intelsat 33E (#41748, 2016-053B) in GEO on October 19, 2024, at approximately 0430 UTC,” stated an alert posted on SpaceTrack, the U.S. Department of Defense’s space-tracking platform.
“Currently tracking around 20 associated pieces – analysis ongoing. S4S has observed no immediate threats and is continuing to conduct routine conjunction assessments to support the safety and sustainability of the space domain.”
Douglas Hendrix, CEO of ExoAnalytic Solutions, said the U.S.-based space-tracking company identified 57 pieces of debris Oct. 21 associated with the breakup.
“We are warning operators of any spacecraft that we think are at risk of collision,” Hendrix said via email.
British Advisors to Kamala Harris Hope to “Kill Musk’s Twitter”
October 22nd, 2024Via: The DisInformation Chronicle:
In an explosive leak with ramifications for the upcoming U.S. presidential election, internal documents from the Center for Countering Digital Hate—whose founder is British political operative Morgan McSweeney, now advising the Kamala Harris campaign—show the group plans in writing to “kill Musk’s Twitter” while strengthening ties with the Biden/Harris administration and Democrats like Senator Amy Klobuchar, who has introduced multiple bills to regulate online “misinformation.”

Man Claims That Viewing Laser Diffraction Pattern On Surface After Ingesting DMT Reveals Some Sort of Code
October 20th, 2024I’ve never taken DMT and don’t plan to, but I saw this meme a couple of days ago and was practically willing a story to appear to give me an excuse to post it.

Danny Goler, a filmmaker, is working on the documentary “The Discovery“, in which he reveals a groundbreaking experiment that he believes could change everything we think we know about the universe. He claims that by projecting a diffracted laser onto a surface and ingesting DMT, you can see the code running through reality, strongly suggesting that we live in a digital world.

Integer Addition Algorithm Could Reduce Energy Needs of AI by 95%
October 20th, 2024I have nowhere near enough propellers in my beanie to do a reality check on this: Addition is All You Need for Energy-efficient Language Models
Definitely interesting, if real.
Via: TechXplore:
A team of engineers at AI inference technology company BitEnergy AI reports a method to reduce the energy needs of AI applications by 95%. The group has published a paper describing their new technique on the arXiv preprint server.
…
In this new effort, the team at BitEnergy AI claims that they have found a way to dramatically reduce the amount of computing required to run AI apps that does not result in reduced performance.
The new technique is basic—instead of using complex floating-point multiplication (FPM), the method uses integer addition. Apps use FPM to handle extremely large or small numbers, allowing applications to carry out calculations using them with extreme precision. It is also the most energy-intensive part of AI number crunching.
…
The researchers call their new method Linear-Complexity Multiplication—it works by approximating FPMs using integer addition. They claim that testing, thus far, has shown that the new approach reduces electricity demand by 95%.
The one drawback it has is that it requires different hardware than that currently in use. But the research team also notes that the new type of hardware has already been designed, built and tested.
