Pope Had Role in Moving Molesting Priest, Who Then Continued to Molest Children
March 13th, 2010From the Pope on down, through the Vatican and therefore through the lower echelons, the whole organisation, in my belief, is utterly anti-Christian and evil, as proven by centuries of torture, bloodshed, burnings, terrorism, and coverings-up of “the worst crime” known to man.
And if Jesus Christ is to be seen in the vulnerable of this world, then all the church has done is crucify the man over and over and over again.
If Christ was here, he would be burning down the Vatican. And I for one would be helping him.

Pope Benedict XVI, during his tenure as archbishop of Munich, played a role in a decision to move a priest accused of sexual molestation to his diocese to undergo therapy, the church said today.
The priest was later reassigned by another church official and committed more abuse, the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising said in a statement on its Web site. Benedict, at the time Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger, “was involved” in a 1980 decision to move the priest, identified only as “H.,” from a church in Essen, Germany, to a rectory in the Munich region for treatment, the diocese said.
A former vicar-general in the church administration, Gerhard Gruber, subsequently allowed the accused priest to continue pastoral duties, during which he committed abuse and was convicted by a court in 1986. Gruber said in the statement that the decision to re-post “H.” was his alone.
“The repeated employment of ‘H.’ in pastoral duties was a serious mistake,” Gruber said. “I take full responsibility for this and I deeply regret that this decision led to offenses against youths — I apologize to all those who were harmed by this.”
A wave of allegations of sexual abuse by Catholic priests has emerged in Germany this year, beginning at an elite Jesuit high school in Berlin, Canisius-Kolleg. The head of the German Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Robert Zollitsch, last month issued an apology to more than 100 pedophilia victims, echoing Benedict’s statement that such abuse is a “heinous crime.”
The EverBank Gold Story
March 13th, 2010WARNING: This is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any financial instrument.
Disclosure: I have no relationship with EverBank.
Dozens of blogs are reporting that EverBank has changed the terms and conditions with regard to their Non-FDIC Insured Metals Select product.
The typical way that stories like this work is that one goldbug uses another goldbug as a source and on it goes. I decided to authoritatively verify this one before running it on Cryptogon. I went over to EverBank to read their terms and conditions.
The changes, cited on dozens of sites, weren’t present on EverBank’s site.
I sent an email to EverBank:
Hello,
I am a blogger and I am trying to verify recent changes that were
supposedly made to the terms related to your Non-FDIC Insured Metals
Select product.
Several sites are reporting that the following changes were made:
“Non-FDIC Insured Metals Select Changes” –
Section 6.3.7. General Terms: We have added language clarifying our
right to close your account. We may close your Metals Select Account at
anytime upon reasonable notice to you. If we believe that it is ncessary
to close your account immediately in order to limit losses by you or us,
we may close your account prior to providing notice to you. Notice from
us to one of you is notice to all of you. If we close your account, we
reserve the right to convert your Precious Metals to U.S. dollars and
tender the balance to you by mail.
—
I do not see this language in your terms sheet:
http://www.everbank.com/000Terms.aspx
Is the language above actually EverBank policy?
Thank you,
Kevin Flaherty
cryptogon.com
In about an hour, I received this response from EverBank. I have added emphasis in bold:
Yes, the change was made to our Terms and Conditions, but we have since
pulled this language from our T&Cs. I appreciate you doing some
research on this issue. Several bloggers seem to have picked up this
story and ran with it, never even asking about the language. The
following is the response our President, Frank Trotter has been sending
out in response to these blogs and newsletters:
“We have noticed some blog and newsletter comments concerning the new
Terms and Conditions for our EverBank Metals Select accounts. As part of
our periodic review of these contracts we recently standardized and
consolidated the Terms and Conditions for all EverBank accounts and
products. In connection with this process, we have included the new
language in Section 6.3.7.3 of the Terms and Conditions that has been
quoted in some commentary.
This language was not intended to allow EverBank to close your Metals
Account arbitrarily or without good reason. This technical contract
language was added to clarify EverBank’s rights in the event that
unforeseen circumstances necessitated a change in EverBank’s ability to
act as custodian for precious metals purchased by you through EverBank.
Given the concerns that have been posted and the fact that we do not
foresee any likely circumstance that would affect our ability to
continue to serve as custodian for your precious metals, we are in the
process of deleting Section 6.3.7.3 from the EverBank Terms and
Conditions in its entirety and notifying customers.
As a reminder you can request that metals held in any EverBank Metals
Select account be shipped to you (in the case of allocated accounts) or
converted to a specific physical form and shipped to you (in the case of
non-IRA pooled accounts) at any time.
I hope that this clarifies the matter and invite those with further
questions to contact the World Markets desk directly.
Thank you –
Frank Trotter, President, EverBank Direct”
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any additional questions.
Again, I appreciate you doing the legwork to verify the information.
Thanks,
Chris Gaffney, CFA

Air Quality Bad for 40 Percent of Americans
March 12th, 2010Via: Courthouse News:
Despite drastic cuts in air pollution, more than 40 percent of Americans still live in areas with unacceptable air quality, according to an Environmental Protection Agency report released on Wednesday.
Over the last three decades, the levels of core pollutants in the U.S. have been cut in half despite a 34 percent growth in population size, a 90 percent increase in miles driven, and a 30 percent boost in energy use.
But the improvements — credited to nation-wide regulations on cars and other industries — still leave 127 million Americans in areas that fall short of federal standards for levels of lead, sulfur dioxide, particle pollution and ground-level ozone, according to the EPA’s report entitled “Our Nation’s Air Status and Trends Through 2008.”

CDC Uses Shopper-Card Data to Trace Salmonella
March 12th, 2010Via: PhysOrg:
As they scrambled recently to trace the source of a salmonella outbreak that has sickened hundreds around the country, investigators from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention successfully used a new tool for the first time – the shopper cards that millions of Americans swipe every time they buy groceries.
With permission from the patients, investigators followed the trail of grocery purchases to a Rhode Island company that makes salami, then zeroed in on the pepper used to season the meat.
Never before had the CDC successfully mined the mountain of data that supermarket chains compile.
“It was really exciting. It was a break in the investigation for sure,” CDC epidemiologist Casey Barton Behravesh said.
At least 245 people in 44 states have been sickened in the outbreak. That includes 30 in California, 19 in Illinois, 18 in New York and 17 in Washington state.
The victims included Raymond Cirimele, a 55-year-old Chicago man. He said no one asked for his shopper-card data, but he would have provided it if someone had.
“I don’t have any secrets, so I’m not worried about it,” he said. “It’s kind of like the whole airport security and all that. I’d rather fly on a safe plane.”

Too Many Women Dying in U.S. While Having Babies
March 12th, 2010Via: Time:
Amnesty International may be best known to American audiences for bringing to light horror stories overseas such as the disappearance of political activists in Argentina or the abysmal conditions inside South African prisons under apartheid. But in a new report on pregnancy and childbirth care in the U.S., Amnesty details the maternal health care crisis in this country as part of a systemic violation of women’s rights.
The report, titled “Deadly Delivery,” notes that the likelihood of a woman dying in childbirth in the U.S. is ?ve times greater than in Greece, four times greater than in Germany, and three times greater than in Spain. Every day in the U.S., more than two women die of pregnancy-related causes, with the maternal mortality ratio doubling from 6.6 deaths per 100,000 births in 1987 to 13.3 deaths per 100,000 births in 2006. (And as shocking as these figures are, Amnesty notes that the actual number of maternal deaths in the U.S. may be a lot higher since there are no federal requirements to report these outcomes and since data collection at the state and local levels needs to be improved.) “In the U.S., we spend more than any country on health care, yet American women are at greater risk of dying from pregnancy-related causes than in 40 other countries,” says Nan Strauss, the report’s co-author, who spent two years investigating the issue of maternal mortality worldwide. “We thought that was scandalous.”
According to Amnesty, which gathered data from many sources including the CDC, approximately half of the pregnancy-related deaths in the U.S. are preventable, the result of systemic failures including barriers to accessing care; inadequate, neglectful, or discriminatory care; and overuse of risky interventions like inducing labor and delivering via cesarean section. “Women are not dying from complex, mysterious causes that we don’t know how to treat,” says Strauss. “Women are dying because it’s a fragmented system, and they are not getting the comprehensive services that they need.”
The report notes that black women in the U.S. are nearly four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, although they are no more likely to suffer certain complications like hemorrhage.

French Bread Spiked with LSD in CIA Experiment
March 11th, 2010Via: Telegraph:
A 50-year mystery over the ‘cursed bread’ of Pont-Saint-Esprit, which left residents suffering hallucinations, has been solved after a writer discovered the US had spiked the bread with LSD as part of an experiment.
In 1951, a quiet, picturesque village in southern France was suddenly and mysteriously struck down with mass insanity and hallucinations. At least five people died, dozens were interned in asylums and hundreds afflicted.
For decades it was assumed that the local bread had been unwittingly poisoned with a psychedelic mould. Now, however, an American investigative journalist has uncovered evidence suggesting the CIA peppered local food with the hallucinogenic drug LSD as part of a mind control experiment at the height of the Cold War.
The mystery of Le Pain Maudit (Cursed Bread) still haunts the inhabitants of Pont-Saint-Esprit, in the Gard, southeast France.
On August 16, 1951, the inhabitants were suddenly racked with frightful hallucinations of terrifying beasts and fire.
One man tried to drown himself, screaming that his belly was being eaten by snakes. An 11-year-old tried to strangle his grandmother. Another man shouted: “I am a plane”, before jumping out of a second-floor window, breaking his legs. He then got up and carried on for 50 yards. Another saw his heart escaping through his feet and begged a doctor to put it back. Many were taken to the local asylum in strait jackets.
Time magazine wrote at the time: “Among the stricken, delirium rose: patients thrashed wildly on their beds, screaming that red flowers were blossoming from their bodies, that their heads had turned to molten lead.”
Eventually, it was determined that the best-known local baker had unwittingly contaminated his flour with ergot, a hallucinogenic mould that infects rye grain. Another theory was the bread had been poisoned with organic mercury.
However, H P Albarelli Jr., an investigative journalist, claims the outbreak resulted from a covert experiment directed by the CIA and the US Army’s top-secret Special Operations Division (SOD) at Fort Detrick, Maryland.
The scientists who produced both alternative explanations, he writes, worked for the Swiss-based Sandoz Pharmaceutical Company, which was then secretly supplying both the Army and CIA with LSD.
Mr Albarelli came across CIA documents while investigating the suspicious suicide of Frank Olson, a biochemist working for the SOD who fell from a 13th floor window two years after the Cursed Bread incident. One note transcribes a conversation between a CIA agent and a Sandoz official who mentions the “secret of Pont-Saint-Esprit” and explains that it was not “at all” caused by mould but by diethylamide, the D in LSD.
While compiling his book, A Terrible Mistake: The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA’s Secret Cold War Experiments, Mr Albarelli spoke to former colleagues of Mr Olson, two of whom told him that the Pont-Saint-Esprit incident was part of a mind control experiment run by the CIA and US army.
After the Korean War the Americans launched a vast research programme into the mental manipulation of prisoners and enemy troops.
Scientists at Fort Detrick told him that agents had sprayed LSD into the air and also contaminated “local foot products”.
Mr Albarelli said the real “smoking gun” was a White House document sent to members of the Rockefeller Commission formed in 1975 to investigate CIA abuses. It contained the names of a number of French nationals who had been secretly employed by the CIA and made direct reference to the “Pont St. Esprit incident.” In its quest to research LSD as an offensive weapon, Mr Albarelli claims, the US army also drugged over 5,700 unwitting American servicemen between 1953 and 1965.
None of his sources would indicate whether the French secret services were aware of the alleged operation. According to US news reports, French intelligence chiefs have demanded the CIA explain itself following the book’s revelations. French intelligence officially denies this.
Locals in Pont-Saint-Esprit still want to know why they were hit by such apocalyptic scenes. “At the time people brought up the theory of an experiment aimed at controlling a popular revolt,” said Charles Granjoh, 71.
“I almost kicked the bucket,” he told the weekly French magazine Les Inrockuptibles. “I’d like to know why.”

Mass School Closures Approved in Kansas City
March 11th, 2010Via: AP:
The Kansas City school board narrowly approved a plan Wednesday night to close nearly half the district’s schools in a desperate bid to avoid a potential bankruptcy.
The board voted 5-4 after parents and community leaders made final pleas to spare the schools even as the beleaguered district seeks to erase a projected $50 million budget shortfall. The approved plan calls for shuttering 29 of 61 schools – a striking amount even as public school closures rise nationwide while the recession eats away at academic budgets.
“The urban core has suffered white flight post-the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision Brown v. the Board of Education, blockbusting by the real estate industry, redlining by banks and other financial institutions, retail and grocery store abandonment,” Kansas City Councilwoman Sharon Sanders Brooks said to applause from a standing-room-only crowd of more than 200 people.
“And now the public education system is aiding and abetting in the economic demise of our school district,” she said. “It is shameful and sinful.”
Many school board members said the vote was difficult. An emotional Duane Kelly called it “the most painful vote” he has cast in 10 years on the board.
Under the approved plan, buildings will be shuttered before the next school year. Teachers at six other low-performing schools will be required to reapply for their jobs, and the district will sell its downtown central office. About 700 of the district’s 3,000 jobs – including 285 teachers – also are expected to be cut.
Papal Aide Linked to Vatican Gay Prostitution Ring
March 11th, 2010Via: Irish Times:
“AT WHAT time does he have to be back in the seminary?” The question might seem innocent enough, were it not for the fact that the man asking it is a Papal Gentleman, Angelo Balducci, and the man of whom he is asking it is his pimp, Vatican chorister and Nigerian, Chinediu Thiomas Ehiem.
If Italian media sources are to be believed, then the compromising shadow of a highly active gay prostitution ring currently hangs over both the Holy See and unnamed Rome seminary colleges.
The first casualty of this potentially explosive scandal was Thiomas Ehiem, who yesterday was dismissed from the choir of the Cappella Giulia, the choir used in St Peter’s for ceremonies which do not involve the pope.
The Cappella Giulia comes under the auspices of Cardinal Angelo Comastri, arch-priest of St Peter’s.
Vatican sources pointed out that Mr Ehiem was neither a priest nor a seminary student, but a lay member of the choir.
The revelations came to light during investigations into Angelo Balducci, former head of the Italian office of public works, who was arrested last month on suspicion of corruption. This related to the awarding of a series of public contracts for major events such as last year’s G8 Summit in La Maddalena, Sardinia (later moved to L’Aquila), the 2009 World Swimming Championships, and next year’s 150th anniversary celebrations of the Unity of Italy.
Phone taps of the last two years reveal that Mr Balducci regularly contacted two men, Mr Ehiem and Lorenzo Renzi, to ask them to set up “appointments” for him, “appointments” for which he would pay up to €2,000.
Mr Balducci would ask for a description of his “escort”, and would be furnished with details of the man’s height, weight, skin colour, age and sexual availability.
Transcripts of Mr Balducci’s conversations suggest that his “escorts” came from many different backgrounds, with some being illegal immigrants who badly needed money.
Others were seminary students in Rome.
Mr Balducci, who has been a Papal Gentleman since 1995, has long worked closely with the Holy See on behalf of the Italian state, overseeing the logistical and infrastructural requirements of events such as the Holy Year in 2000, the canonisations of Padre Pio and Opus Dei founder José Maria Escriva in 2002, and the beatification of Mother Teresa in 2003.
In the context of the investigation into the office of public works, investigators believe that Mr Balducci systematically abused his position, exacting favours that ranged from a job for his son to the construction of a swimming pool by builders who had been awarded public contracts.
Investigators believe that private sector contracts for last year’s G8 Summit were inflated from an initial €290 million to €600 million.
Papal Gentlemen are those lay attendants of the pope who serve in the papal household, in the Apostolic Palace and in St Peter’s on ceremonial occasions.
