JPMorgan Settles Jeffrey Epstein Case For $75 Million, Avoiding Trial

September 26th, 2023

Via: ZeroHedge:

JPMorgan Chase has agreed to pay the US Virgin Islands (USVI) a scant $75 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that the bank knowingly aided Jeffrey Epstein’s underage sex-trafficking operation, ending a legal battle that exposed all sorts of embarrassing ties between the bank and the dead pedophile.

The settlement was reached one month before the sides were scheduled to go to trial in Manhattan, where the USVI sought $190 million from the bank.

JPMorgan admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement.

Earlier this month we learned that JPMorgan flagged over $1 billion in suspicious transactions linked to Epstein, which they claimed to have reported to the US government, according to a filing by the USVI.

Growing Numbers Of American Volunteers Wounded In Ukraine Treated At U.S. Army Hospital In Germany

September 26th, 2023

The US Army is giving medical care to wounded American fighters who volunteered for Ukraine’s foreign legion and other militias at a hospital in Germany.

This is happening with increasing frequency at the US Army’s Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, a New York Times investigation found, which marks “a notable new step in the United States’ deepening involvement in the conflict,” as the report underscored.

The Times observed that the hospital “has quietly started admitting Ukrainian Army soldiers who were wounded in combat, most of them American volunteers.” This is unusual given the hospital would typically only treat active duty personnel.

The report described:

“A group of Ukrainian Army soldiers pierced by Russian grenades and mortar shells arrived at a hospital recently in need of surgery. It would have been a familiar scene from the bloody war grinding on in Ukraine, except for two crucial differences: Most of the wounded soldiers were American…”

“Though the number so far is small — currently 14 — it marks a notable new step in the United States’ deepening involvement in the conflict,” NYT continued.

Analog Telephone Service Ending in UK

Via: Daily Mail:

BT has confirmed the next phase of Digital Voice – the nationwide scrappage of the copper landline network for phone calls – will hit the North West and London later this year.

The phone operator is aiming to move away from old-style landlines entirely by the end of 2025, which will mean all households and businesses will need some form of internet connection in order to use the phone.

The move is part of an industry-wide shift away from analogue to digital landlines, meaning calls are made over the internet via a broadband line.

From 2025, all households and businesses will need the internet to make calls under a major digital shake-up – meaning millions of customers will be pushed online for the first time or forced to rely on a mobile phone instead.

Anti-Covid Drug Molnupiravir May Have Led to Virus Mutations

2021: Prominent Virologist Warns COVID-19 Pill Could Unleash Dangerous Mutants

Via: AFP:

An anti-Covid drug widely used across the world may have caused mutations in the virus, researchers said, but there was no evidence that the changes had led to more dangerous variants.

Pharmaceutical giant Merck’s antiviral pill molnupiravir was one of the earliest treatments rolled out during the pandemic to prevent Covid becoming more severe in vulnerable people.

The drug, which is taken orally over a five-day course, works mainly by creating mutations in the virus with the goal of weakening and killing it.

However, a new UK-led study has shown that molnupiravir “can give rise to significantly mutated viruses which remain viable,” lead author Theo Sanderson said.

Sanderson, a geneticist at London’s Francis Crick Institute, emphasised that there is no evidence that “molnupiravir has to date created more transmissible or more virulent viruses”.

None of the variants that have swept the world were due to the drug, he added.

“AI Girlfriends Are Ruining an Entire Generation of Men” [???]

September 26th, 2023

As far gone as things seem to be, is the situation actually much worse?

Via: The Hill:

The rise of virtual artificial intelligence (AI) girlfriends is enabling the silent epidemic of loneliness in an entire generation of young men. It is also having severe consequences for America’s future.

How is something that seems so ridiculous — a virtual AI girlfriend — causing a future crisis among Americans? Well, with millions of users, apps have created virtual girlfriends that talk to you, love you, allow you to live out your erotic fantasies, and learn, through data, exactly what you like and what you don’t like, creating the “perfect” relationship.

These virtual girlfriends can even be based on real people. One influencer created an AI bot of herself named Caryn, then gained over 1,000 users (i.e. real boyfriends) in less than a week and a waitlist of more than 15,000 people.

While the concept of an AI girlfriend may seem like a joke, it really isn’t that funny. It is enabling a generation of lonely men to stay lonely and childless, which will have devastating effects on the U.S. economy in less than a decade.

Hunter Biden and pals wanted to lobby indicted Democratic New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez on behalf of a Spanish rail company after regulators scrutinized the firm, according to emails found on Hunter’s infamous laptop.

According to the Daily Caller, Spanish rail company Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) hired Rosemont Seneca Partners, Hunter Biden’s investment firm, to lobby the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Amtrak in order to obtain government contracts on various railway contracts, the emails reveal.

In fact, Hunter and pals spoke with Menendez’s office about CAF, and even arranged for meetings between CAF and DOT officials.

Baby Boomers Becoming Homeless at Rate Not Seen Since the Great Depression

September 25th, 2023

Via: Moneywise:

Many baby boomers across the country are now coming to terms with the hard reality that working for your entire adult life is no longer enough to guarantee you’ll have a roof over your head in your later years.

Thanks in part to a series of recessions, high housing costs and a shortage of affordable housing, older adults are now the fastest-growing segment of America’s homeless population, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, based on data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“The fact that we are seeing elderly homelessness is something that we have not seen since the Great Depression,” University of Pennsylvania social policy professor Dennis Culhane told WSJ.
