Spinal Implants Allow Three Paralyzed Men to Walk Again

February 9th, 2022

Via: Independent:

Three patients suffering from complete paralysis had their body movements rapidly restored thanks to a new implant being studied as part of an ongoing clinical trial.

The novel implant electrically stimulates the spinal cord and was found to restore body movements within a few hours of the onset of therapy in the patients, showed new research.

The implant stimulated muscles with electrical impulses, mimicking the brain’s actions, and could potentially lead to novel therapies for people with severe spinal injuries who struggle to stand, walk and exercise.

While electrical stimulation of the spinal cord has been a promising treatment option for restoring body movements in people with spinal cord injuries, these approaches have so far primarily involved repurposing technologies originally designed to treat pain, researchers said.

The scientists, including Andreas Rowald from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), said these re-purposed electrical stimulation devices failed to stimulate all the nerves in the spinal cord associated with leg and trunk movements.

The use of such neuro-technologies limited the recovery of all motor functions as a result, the scientists added.

In the new research, the scientists designed a new electrode paddle that targeted all the nerves associated with leg and trunk movements in the spinal cord.

“So we’ve developed a completely new electrode array that is wider and longer. I could implant this electrode array just under the vertebra and upon the spinal cord,” Jocelyne Bloch, the study’s corresponding author from EPFL, said in a statement.

Geomagnetic Storm Takes Out 40 SpaceX Starlink Satellites

February 9th, 2022

Via: SpaceX:

Unfortunately, the satellites deployed on Thursday were significantly impacted by a geomagnetic storm on Friday. These storms cause the atmosphere to warm and atmospheric density at our low deployment altitudes to increase. In fact, onboard GPS suggests the escalation speed and severity of the storm caused atmospheric drag to increase up to 50 percent higher than during previous launches. The Starlink team commanded the satellites into a safe-mode where they would fly edge-on (like a sheet of paper) to minimize drag—to effectively “take cover from the storm”—and continued to work closely with the Space Force’s 18th Space Control Squadron and LeoLabs to provide updates on the satellites based on ground radars.

Preliminary analysis show the increased drag at the low altitudes prevented the satellites from leaving safe-mode to begin orbit raising maneuvers, and up to 40 of the satellites will reenter or already have reentered the Earth’s atmosphere. The deorbiting satellites pose zero collision risk with other satellites and by design demise upon atmospheric reentry—meaning no orbital debris is created and no satellite parts hit the ground. This unique situation demonstrates the great lengths the Starlink team has gone to ensure the system is on the leading edge of on-orbit debris mitigation.

GoFundMe Withholds $9 Million Donated to Truckers Protesting Vaccine Mandates

February 8th, 2022

Via: The Defender:

“The Canadian government has been doing everything it can to stop and hinder the Freedom Trucker Convoy from continuing,” said journalist and political commentator, Kim Iversen on the latest episode of The Hill’s “Rising.”

Iversen said government officials are issuing $700 tickets and threatening to arrest anyone who brings fuel or other essential supplies to the truckers.

They also declared a state of emergency in Ottawa, giving police more power to begin towing and removing protestors, Iversen said.

Iversen described how the government successfully pressured GoFundMe to withhold more than $9 million in donations from the truckers.

Biden Administration to Fund Distribution of Crack Pipes as Part of, “Advancing Racial Equity”

February 8th, 2022

From, Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration FY 2022 Harm Reduction Program Grant (Short Title: Harm Reduction) (Modified Announcement) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) No. SP-22-001 Assistance Listing Number No.: 93.243:

The behavioral health disparity impact statement is in alignment with the expectations related to Executive Order 13985 “Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government.”

Via: Daily Mail:

President Biden’s Health and Human Services department (HHS) is finalizing funding to dole out crack pipes to drug addicts as part of its ‘Harm Reduction Plan.’

The $30 million grant program, which accepted applications until Monday and will begin doling out money in May, intends to provide funds to nonprofits and local governments to make drug use safer, to advance ‘racial equity.’

Included in the grant is money to purchase ‘safe smoking kits/supplies.’ A spokesperson for HHS told the Washington Free Beacon that included in these kits could be pipes for users to smoke substances like crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, or ‘any illicit substance.’

HHS said that the kits will serve to limit the risk of infection – typically users smoke out of glass pipes which can lead to cuts and sores that become infected with diseases like Hepatitis-C.

Handing out pipes is also intended to prompt users to smoke rather than inject themselves with some substances, like meth, as injection is far riskier.

Applicants for the program get priority if they serve ‘underserved communities,’ such as African Americans or Native Americans, or LGBTQ people.

Corona Investigative Committee: Peoples’ Court of Public Opinion

February 6th, 2022

Note: This is a public presentation, not a legal proceeding in any court, as stated in the press release:

This investigation is of the people, by the people and for the people and will be referred to as the ‘Peoples’ Court of Public Opinion. Having been unable to find a court to hear the actual evidence in the current system’s courts of law, we are undertaking this proceeding outside of the current system and based on natural law. This, in turn is founded on the firm belief that every person can easily distinguish between good and evil, and between right and wrong.

Convoy 2022 NZ

February 5th, 2022

There is a truck (and any other vehicle) protest happening in New Zealand now.

Links:

convoy2022.nz, Facebook, Twitter, Telegram

This is mostly being ignored by the North Korean style state sponsored media in New Zealand.

Via: Daily Telegraph:

The focus of the protest is set out in its Mission Statement, which contains five points:

Stop all mandates and end all COVID-19 imposed restrictions.
Reverse COVID-19 introducted legislation and cease all proposed legislation.
The immediate restoration of inalienable human rights.
Medical professionals to follow the principles in the NZMA Code of Ethics.
All media to have freedom without censorship.

Everyone is welcome to join the convoy – trucks, cars, tractors and bikes.

There are two convoys – one in the North Island, one in the South Island, but within each island there’s different routes to ensure as much of the population has a chance to join as possible.

CDC Admits Natural Immunity Trumps Vaccine Immunity – 5 Months After Touting Vaccines as Superior

February 4th, 2022

Via: The Defender:

A Jan. 19 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed natural immunity against COVID was at least three times as effective as vaccination alone at preventing people from becoming infected with the Delta variant.

Overall, the study showed natural immunity outperformed vaccine immunity when it came to preventing infection and hospitalization from Delta.

The results contradicted a previous CDC study, published in August 2021, which concluded vaccination was better than natural immunity. The CDC issued a media statement about the August study, which was widely covered by mainstream press.

When a much larger Israeli study was published two weeks later, finding the opposite, the CDC did not offer any comment or analysis on the new data.

“The CDC is now finally revising its position five months later,” said Dr. Madhava Setty, senior science editor for The Defender. “This is a major problem with the CDC and its data. They have been opaque and late to the game from the beginning.”
